Obituary

Wilma Figueroa Dawson left this earthly domain on angel's wings to be with her Heavenly Father on October 3, 2023.

Born on August 3, 1941, in Del Rio, Texas, she was the second of three children born to Armando Figueroa and Flavia Aldrete, part of a family of immigrants from Mexico. While she adhered to the family mantra of "English First," she was bilingual and proud of her ancestral heritage.

The family moved to several places in Texas during her childhood, including Del Rio, Sonora and San Angelo. She graduated from San Angelo Central High and was involved in student activities, such as the Tex-Ann's Drill Team, and was elected Homecoming Queen her senior year. She went on to attend San Angelo College, Texas Women's University, and graduated from North Texas State University with a degree in business.

She married and the couple settled in Dallas. Wilma gave birth to the light of her life, her daughter Maria Elena Bellwood. Their relationship epitomized the best of mother-daughter bonds throughout her lifetime. She worked for a variety of companies, including LTV, Campbell Company, Allegiance Telecom and XO Communications. After retirement, Wilma and her sister, Maria Weaver, were the primary caretakers for their mother, Flavia, until her passing in 2022 at the age of 103.

Wilma is survived by her daughter, Maria Elena Bellwood, her granddaughter Carys Bellwood, her sister Maria Weaver, her brother Francisco Figueroa and his wife Edde, nephew Matthew Dixon and his family, nephew Derek Figueroa and his family, and nephew Christopher Weaver. She was predeceased by her parents, niece Melanie Dixon and nephew Adam Figueroa.

Wilma was ever charming, devout in her faith, always kind, dignified and full of grace. She was an avid reader and kept up with current events and political activities. Her favorite activities were spending time with her daughter, granddaughter, and devoted friends.
