Val Cadena, Sr., age 95, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born on March 6, 1929.
Val was a lifelong resident of Del Rio and a graduate of Texas A&M after serving his country faithfully in the U.S. Army. He proposed the name United Civic Organization which was ultimately adopted. He also served his community by owning and operating a local business, was a Val Verde County Commissioner for three straight terms from 1965-1976, and was also Val Verde County Judge from 1991-1994. Mr. Cadena was a Lifetime member of Del Rio Rotary Club, served as the President of the Val Verde Hospital Corporate Board of Directors for 10 Years, and was a life member of Sacred Heart Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Hernan and Beatriz Cadena; a sister: Beatrice Cadena; and a brother: Butch Cadena.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 70 years, Florisa Cadena; Sons: Val Cadena Jr. (Susan), Dr. Louis Cadena (Sheila), Judge Robert Cadena (Camille), and a daughter: Lisa Cadena Craig
12 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren also survive him.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
