Susan Jane Benton Ward, of Spring Branch, Texas passed away on Tuesday May 27, 2025.She was born in Carthage, Missouri on January 3, 1947, to Frank and Mary Jane Benton.She is survived by her husband Richard Lee Ward and their cat Vlad, daughter Stacy andson-in-law Dan Vernon, son Derek and daughter-in-law Jamie Ward and daughter SheliaWard. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kelsey, Daniel, Dylan, David, Laura, Emilyand Kate; her twin brother Alan Benton and sister-in-law Nancy Benton and sister Fran andBrother-in-law Jerry Grunden. Susan was preceded in death by her baby brother Roger (twinto Fran), and her parents, Mary Jane Benton and Frank Benton. She had a close and lovingmother-daughter relationship with one of her younger friends, Courtney John. Susan grew up in Joplin Missouri. She sang in the choir at Byers Avenue Methodist church.She loved the traditional church hymns. She played violin in High School orchestra. Shealso learned to play the fiddle, classical guitar, ukulele and a Biblical instrument called thePsaltery. She met Richard at a Methodist Church Youth Rally. Their first date was to see afolk music group and from then on, they were inseparable. Susan and Richard planned toget married, but her parents wanted her to complete her education first, so Susan spentthree years obtaining her R.N. license in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She married Richard on the dayshe graduated. She loved the Lord and led her family in church attendance. She attended many Bible studygroups over the years and formed life-long friendships with her church friends. Her passionwas helping people, from her nursing career to nutritional counselor, lay counselor, andgrief counseling, she spent her life trying to help others heal. After she retired from nursing,she co-taught programs with her husband at Acorn Christian Counseling in Corpus Christi.They taught For Kids' Sake classes to help divorcing parents focus on their children'sneeds. They taught PREP divorce prevention classes. She taught the Within Our Reachpremarital program. She started and taught the Grief Share program. She also taughtTransformation Prayer Ministry. She loved the outdoors and cherished time at the beach. She and Richard lived in CorpusChristi for 20 years. In the summers in Corpus Christi, she invited the grandchildren to visitfor a week or two of "Camp Grandma" when she would take them to the beach and to theCorpus Christi State Aquarium. Richard and Susan moved to Canyon Lake to be closer totheir 3 children and 7 grandchildren about 4 years ago. Susan is with the Lord now. Jesus told all who believe in him that "And if I go and prepare aplace for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there youmay be also." (John 14:3 NKJ)
