Shirley Weston, age 95, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at Southwest Assisted Living in Del Rio, Texas. She was born July 8, 1929, in Mexia, Texas, the daughter of David Floyd and Georgia Hazel (Scott) Smith.

After 16 years of life in Mexia, she caught sight of John (Johnny) Weston playing basketball while visiting a friend. After inquiring as to his name, she declared that he was the man she was going to marry! She and John met, and she joined him in attending nearby Tehuacana Jr. College until they married after her 18th birthday. She finished her Education degree while attending the University of Texas at Austin, while they served a church in Star. She then worked in Dallas while John attended seminary at Perkins School of Theology at SMU. Together, they shared in ministry and became a part of every community they served as John pastored United Methodist churches and she taught special needs students, raised a family, played the piano, sang, and more. They served in Star, Lometa, Portland, Donna, Luling, Sonora, Harlingen, Eagle Lake, Pearsall, and Uvalde. Shirley often said that her greatest accomplishment and joy was her family.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by brothers Garrett and David Smith; sisters Esther Halbert, Virginia Conway, and Wanda Boaz; and sons Jeffrey and Jimmy.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, are her son, John Weston and his wife, Donna, of Del Rio; daughters Carol Ann Weston of Abilene, Susan Tegen and her husband, Tom, of Potosi; eight grandchildren Bryan Weston, Alyssa Villarreal, Laura Dickson, Jennie Peters, Ty Weston, Clay Weston, Paul Tegen, and Garrett Tegen; eleven great grandchildren Addie, Grady, Lexi, Elise, Alex, Carter, Caden, Grace, Evelyn, Lucina, and Maya; one great-great grandchild Delilah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John and Shirley pledged never to part and spent less than a dozen nights apart in their wonderful 77 years of marriage. So, John requests that the family wait (hopefully a good while) and spread their combined ashes and bluebonnet seeds at a special place where Jimmy and Jeffrey's ashes lie near their retirement home on Lake Buchanan, where they spent many happy years. There will be no services at this time, but memorials may be directed to Methodist Children's Home, 1111 Herring Ave., Waco, TX 76708 or a charity near to your heart.
