Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Secundina Segura Cardenas, was welcomed into heaven on March 22, 2014, at the age of 102. Her beloved son, Serapio "Papo" III, called her to join him to heaven on this 22nd day of March, 46 years ago, he saved a place for her.
Born on April 2, 1911 in Sanderson, Texas, she came to Del Rio, Texas with her father, mother and siblings when she was 10 years old. The original plan was to find work in Del Rio, Texas after her brother, Merejildo found work here and expressed his confidence to his father that he could find work and Del Rio became home. This is where she met her husband, Serapio T. Cardenas Jr.
Secundina was a Migrant worker. She traveled with her husband and children, working the fields harvesting cucumbers, cherries, green beans and potatoes in the states of Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Arizona and Wisconsin. Secundina picked cotton in Arkansas and Texas. At the end of each day she picked more pounds of cotton then everyone else.
She came to be known as "Ama" and "Grammita". She raised chickens and milked her own cow and after separating the cream from the milk, she would produce her own butter. Secundina also cooked animal fat, lye and water to produce her own laundry soap. She also learned to bake and sew for her family at an early age. The nurseries of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have been graced by many quilts, dresses, curtains and costumes lovingly made by her hands.

Sisters Victoria Segura, Francisca Gonzales, Maria Moncebais and Juanita Jimenez. Her beloved husband, Serapio T.
