Santiago Ruiz, Jr., age 81, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born on February 10, 1938 in Brownsville, TX. He was preceded in death by his son Jimmy Ruiz, III; and his parents Santiago Ruiz and Maria Davila. Jim will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and was very proud of his grandchildren. Jim influenced his grandchildren in many ways and he left a mark in their life's. Jim honorably served our country and served 23 years in the United States Air Force. He also served 47 years as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Jim was also well known for his 30 year career in Real Estate. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Nina Ruiz; son Robert Ruiz and wife Mary Ann; daughter Rita Riojas and husband Ruben; grandchildren Robert Ruiz, Jr. (Klarissa), David Ruiz (Kelly), Stephanie Schlesinger (Allen), Nina Nicole Riojas, Cheyann Riojas, Rita Serena Riojas; great-grandchildren Jayden, Noah, Michaela, and Jacob; sisters Mary Sue Ruiz, Lupita Montelongo (Carlos); brother Pete Ruiz (Josie); and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM; Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 9:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Gentlemen with the Honor of Pallbearers are Gilbert Martinez, Gary Derouen, Val Cadena, Jr., Lou Zylka, Henry Gomez, and Steve Webb. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be rendered by the Laughlin Air Force Honor Guard.
