Obituary

Ruben Flores Zapata Sr., 75, entered into rest on March 28, 2026, in Del Rio, Texas. He was born on May 30, 1950, in Cd. Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico.

Lovingly known as Grandpa, Ruben was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love for his family was the foundation of his life. A devout Catholic, his faith guided him throughout his life and brought him strength, comfort, and peace. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially valued the moments when family and loved ones gather together to share a meal, seeing those times as some of life's greatest blessings. Ruben had a deep love for his Dodgers and the San Antonio Spurs. He loved raising birds and loved the outdoors, spending much of his time on the Flores Farm where he took great pride in caring for his plants and animals.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Concepcion Flores, his brother, Eleazar Flores, mother-in-law, Velia Ramon and father-in-law, Pascual Ramon.

Left to cherish in his memory is his wife, Maria de Jesus (Mari) Flores, with whom he spent 53 beautiful years of marriage, along with his children, Ruben Flores Jr. and his wife Lupita Flores, Wendy Flores Martinez and her husband Gary Martinez, and Maryvel Flores; his grandchildren, Denise Soto and her husband Christian Soto, Ruben Flores III, Melyna Martinez, Alan Flores, and Derek Martinez; and his great-grandchildren, Christian Jr., Luca, Khloey, Micah, and his fur-baby Lola.

He is also survived by his father, Jesus Flores, sister Arcelia Cordoba and her husband Ramiro Cordoba, sister Rosy Izquierdo and her husband Oscar Izquierdo, sister Armandina Flores, brother Arnoldo Flores, sister-in-law Amanda Flores, and numerous cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
