Obituary

Philip Alex Pena, 56, of Brackettville died December 24, 2023, in Del Rio, Texas. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Philip had touched in some small way through his brief, yet memorable life.

Philip was born February 23, 1967, at Edwards AFB, California to Reynaldo (Ray) and Olga (Betty) Pena. Philip was the youngest of four brothers, all of whom became lifelong best friends. Being the son of a career Air Force sergeant, Philip's first few years were spent moving to different bases around the country before the family finally settled in Brackettville in 1972.

Philip graduated from Brackett High School in 1985. He played tennis and basketball for the Fighting Tigers winning a State Championship in tennis his senior year. After graduation, Philip attended San Angelo State University. After college Philip began a successful career in retail management working for K-Mart, McCoy's and Tractor Supply. He was hard working and always well respected by corporate management. Most importantly, Philip was admired and respected by his employees and those he led throughout his career.

Whether it was fishing, hunting, golfing or just grilling, Philip was always on the go and loved being outdoors. Philip was a diehard Texas Longhorns fan. But what Philip loved above all else were his boys. They brought so much pride and joy to his life.

Philip is survived by his children, Mark Pena and Andrew Martinez; brothers, Stephen and wife Renee Pena of Midland, TX, Ray Jr., and wife Brenda Pena of Del Rio, TX; several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Reynaldo (Ray) and Olga (Betty) Pena, and brother Daniel Eric Pena.

Philip's friendship and kindness will be greatly missed by everyone who ever knew him.
