Pedro Elias
Cardenas
Aug 16, 1934 — Sep 3, 2024
It is with the most heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Pedro Elias Cardenas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who left us on September 3, 2024 at the age of 90.
Pedro was a man of faith, a hard worker, and a dedicated family man. He took on any work to support his family to include work at Hicks Ponder, a ship welder in Galveston, a school bus driver for the district, but he is best known for taking a leap of faith and creating his company Cardenas Janitorial Service. His company supported and still supports his family after 55 years.
Pedro was blessed to have found the Lord as an adult and became deeply devoted to sharing the word with others for over 51 years. He often ministered at churches in Del Rio and Ciudad Acuna and volunteered with the Val Verder County Jail to share the word with those in need. Many have been touched by his words and deep faith. Even in the last few months before his passing, Pedro spoke to his family on the importance of accepting the Lord and writing their names in the Book of Life. He was defined by his faith and always felt it was his purpose to share his faith and pray for others, even when his health was declining.
Pedro was a big Del Rio Rams fan, particularly with baseball and football. He attended many games, especially those of his children and grandchildren. And he very much enjoyed watching the many sports games of his great grandchildren. Always providing tips on batting, catching, and running.
Pedro is preceded in death by his parents Ramon and Virginia Salazar Cardenas, his daughter Virginia Cardenas, his son Pedro Cardenas Jr., his sister Elia Galindo, and his brother Richard Zuniga.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Hortensia, his daughter-in-law Leticia Cardenas, his children Martin Cardenas (wife Silvia), Javier Cardenas (wife Cindy), Rosie Diaz (husband Raul). Grandchildren Pedro "Pete" Cardenas III (wife Janeth), Ramon Cardenas (wife Rachel), Alyssa Pena (husband Michael), Martin Cardenas (wife Amie), Jason Cardenas (wife Ashley), Raul Diaz (wife Cindy), and Sabrina Gutierrez (husband Basilio). Great-grandchildren Joel Hinojosa, Priscilla Hinojosa, Brianna Pena, Elijah Cardenas, Isaiah Cardenas, Brayden Diaz, Kristabella Diaz, Josiah Gutierrez and Anaiah Gutierrez; and his brothers Frank Zuniga and Ernesto Zuniga.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Chapel Services are scheduled for Saturday, September 7, 2024, 12:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Sisneros officiating followed by burial at San Felipe Cemetery.
Gentlemen with the honor of pallbearers will be Pedro "Pete" Cardenas III, Ramon Cardenas, Michael Pena, Martin Cardenas, Jason Cardenas, Raul Diaz, Brayden Diaz, and Basilio Gutierrez.
