Patrick William Scanlan, age 94, died peacefully at home on September 1, 2024, in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born on May 9, 1930, in Caledonia, Minnesota to Michael Scanlan and Marie Schnedecker.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Grace Scanlan, son Patrick, siblings Richard, Michael and his parents. He is survived by brothers, Thomas, Daniel and James and sisters Geri, Judy and Sally, and his children, Beatrice Quintanilla (Ben), Anne Shaul (Jeff), Mary Kathleen, Michael and Edward. He is also survived by grandchildren Benjamin, Kary, Courtney, Jeremy, Leah, Kyle, Justin, Kelly, Tyler, Dylan, Layne and Maisy and 16 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Pat was thoughtful, kind and intelligent. He was an entrepreneur as a working man with several businesses. Upon his retirement, he lived a pure and simple life. He had many hobbies and adored his wife and his family. He never stopped reading or learning and was happiest when surrounded with family, pets, nature and books. He was a soft-spoken man of few words, but you stopped to listen when he did speak because then he had something important to say or some words of wisdom.
He was a devout and reverent Catholic who attended church each Sunday with his wife without fail, until the pandemic made it dangerous. He truly missed Grace, who preceded him in death 9 months earlier, so much so that his passing was on their wedding anniversary. He always did like to quietly surprise her on that date with a card and gift, much to her delight.
His passing completes the end of a beautiful love story in this life, only to continue anew reunited with his wife in their eternal chapter.
Rest In Peace, Dad. We are proud to be your children.
