Nieves "Marty" Martinez, Jr., of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2026. He was born in New Braunfels on August 5, 1935, to Nieves Martinez, Sr. and Ernestina Padilla.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Jane Martinez; his son, Vincent Martinez (Tracy); and his daughter, Victoria "Vikki" Martinez. He is also survived by his brothers, Ricardo "Richard" Martinez, Edward Martinez, and Joe Martinez; his sisters, Tina Sosland, Julie Martinez, Josie Bartolome, and Mary Ricondo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nieves Martinez, Sr. and Ernestina Padilla; his brother, Luis Martinez; and his sister, Frances Rodriguez.

Marty was a devoted husband and a dedicated father who cherished his family above all else. He proudly served his country as a Corporal in the Texas National Guard for two years before joining the United States Air Force, where he served for eight years. He was honorably discharged in 1963 with the rank of E 5 Staff Sergeant.

Following his military service, Marty dedicated more than 30 years to civil service at Kelly Air Force Base, retiring in March 1994.

Marty's strength was quiet and unassuming, but those who knew him understood the depth of his kindness and generosity. In his spare time, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, daily Sudoku from the local paper, and jigsaw puzzles on his tablet. He loved watching television shows, documentaries, and movies—especially war films and science fiction—and was a proud, lifelong Trekkie.

Music also brought him great joy. His favorites included John Denver, Mel Tillis, Johnny Cash, mariachi music, and rancheras, with beloved artists ranging from Linda Ronstadt and Vikki Carr to Vicente Fernández.

Marty's love for his family, his gentle presence, and his generous heart will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 9:30am, at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Catholic Church, Inurnment and US Airforce Honors at 12:30pm at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.
