Michael was born on October 23, 1924 in Buffalo, New York to Charles and Caroline. He entered the Army in April 1943 during the height of WWII and served for 3 years. He was tasked with the repair and maintenance of the critical teletype communication machines. He was reassigned several times and served each unit with distinction and honor. His actions contributed to the allied forces defeating the Luftwaffe from the sky and broke the will of the German forces. After being honorably discharged, Michael worked as a steel inspector & foreman for Bethlehem Steel. He ensured all the sheet metal was free of defects and critical welding flaws. The metal was used for stamping into fenders and various American made cars. His high rate of quality metal always exceeded manufacture standards, leading to some really nice cars! During this time he married Mary Ann and raised 6 kids. As an addition source of income, Mike promoted a wide range of fighters throughout a span of over 30 years. While working in western New York he developed a boxer into the top ranking in the US. When he moved to Texas, he continued working with Top Rank and San Antonio KO productions to nurture and improve the boxing skills and marketability of several fighters from the Boys & Girls club in both Del Rio and Ciudad, Acuna. After moving to Texas he married Lois Nell Owens. They resided in Del Rio and led to his latest venture in life. He ran for the local school board at the age of 82, where he felt he still had something to give back the community. Survived by his wife, Lois Nell Viggato, Son Michael Viggato and wife, Sharon Viggato from Buffalo, NY, daughter Michele V. Krienbuhl and husband, Russell Krienbuhl from Buffalo, NY, son Mark A. Viggato and wife Rosalinda Viggato from Del Rio, TX, daughter Melanie Viggato from Buffalo, NY, son Mathew Viggato and wife Kim Viggato from San Antonio, TX, son Martin Viggato from Buffalo, NY, daughter-n-law Lois Canty and husband Lee Canty, and son Lance Owens and wife, Roxanne Owens. Michael had 16 grandchildren named John Viggato, Vince Viggato, Russell Krienbuhl, Amy Temarantz, Mariana Ruthstrom, Louie Viggato, Jr., Richard Viggato, Shannon Sherk, Tammy Kardas, Melanie DiLuzio, Sherri Kelly, Ashley Krytos, Jaclyn Steele, Melissa Viggato and Nick Viggato. In addition, Michael had 17 great-grandchildren. Michael was predeceased by mother Caroline Viggato, father Charles Viggato, his brother Frank Viggato, brother Charles Viggato, sister Rose Fadale, and son-n-law Carl Ownes. Visitation will be held Friday, February 16, 2018, 5:00 PM to 9:00 at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Military Honors will be provided by US Army and American Legion Post 595. Chapel Service is scheduled for Friday, February 16, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Services will conclude after visitation.
