Obituary

Michael James "Mo" Flaherty, 59, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully March 9, 2021. He was a very loving and caring partner, father, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. Michael was born January 6, 1962 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Lee High School in 1980 and received a BBA in English Communications and Marketing from St. Mary's University in 1991. During his years at St. Mary's, he studied abroad for a semester and took the Euro rail throughout Europe. He stayed in Austria around the time the Berlin Wall was being taken down, but leave it to Mo to go to a Pink Floyd concert instead of going to a historical event! Michael showed a true passion for his University and was very active in the Alumni Oyster Bake as well as designed art to raise money for the school. Growing up and into their twenties, Michael and his brothers, Patrick and Tommy, a.k.a the three amigos, loved spending time together going fishing, playing games, and even at times, getting themselves into trouble. These three were inseparable and shared a friendship like no other. Along with the three amigos, Michael shared many special bonds with his South Texas friends. It was clear as day he didn't just have multiple friends, but multiple brothers. As life went on, Michael found a zest for life. Michael knew how to have fun and how to make those around him happy. He truly was the life of the party! One of his many talents included his cooking skills. When Mo invited you over for a drink or a meal, you most definitely did not turn down his offer. In addition, he had the gift of gab. His friends joked that he could even sell ice to an eskimo! All in the while of having fun, Michael was very determined. He always was us up for a challenge, but once achieved he was off to the next adventure. From opening up restaurants and insurance agencies to even flipping houses and selling cars, Michael's wheels were always turning looking for the next new frontier, new angle or breaking scheme. Michael could be seen with his yellow note pad handy, beer in hand, planning up his next move. Not only was Michael determined and hard-working, but he was very kind and caring. In his 59 years, he touched many lives including his soulmate and best friend, Misty Migl, who shared with family "Michael was my Rock!...he righted my ship." Mo would give anyone the shirt off of his back, regardless of his situation. He was one of those friends you could always count on to be there for you in time of need. He absolutely had a heart of service. Michael volunteered his time helping the homeless and Vietnam veterans. He would gather food and clothes to be shipped off to disaster relief victims. He did anything he could to make a difference in someone's life, whether it was a smile, a hug, or offering one of his many skills. Throughout life, Michael continued to develop a passion in his religion and strived for a relationship with Jesus Christ. He went on many church retreats sharing his compassion for the Lord with like-minded friends and family. Though our hearts are torn, may the peace which comes from the memories of love shared, comfort you now and in the days ahead knowing there is one more angel above us. Michael's brother Patrick finds solace in the following… "Don't grieve for me for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call: I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I found my place at the close of day. If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too shall miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow: I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch. Perhaps my life seemed all too brief: Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me; God wanted me now, He set me free." Michael is survived by his soulmate, Misty Migl, daughter, Keleigh Flaherty, mother and father, Patricia and Edward Flaherty; brothers Patrick Flaherty and Beau Branham; sisters Rhonda Branham, Robin Branham, Kathleen Flaherty and Amber Branham Jarisch; sister in law Karri Flaherty; three nieces, Bridgette, Shannon, and Savannah Flaherty and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Previously departed loved ones include daughter, Devin Leigh Flaherty; brother, Thomas Flaherty; sister, Royce Branham Lemoine; and grandmother Dorothy Wagoner McGlothlin.
