Michael Duffy, age 77, died from pulmonary fibrosis at his home in Canyon Lake with his family around him on May 10, 2020. This loving man was a Professor Emeritus of Counseling Psychology and taught at Texas A&M University for 35 years. Referred to as a "legend" in the field of counseling psychology by one of his colleagues, he taught and mentored hundreds of psychologists and helped hundreds of people in his private practice as a psychotherapist. His special gift was always being able to find the positives in each person and help them celebrate their best selves. Among numerous leadership roles and awards, he was a licensed board certified psychologist and President of the Texas Psychological Association (TPA) along with being a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and Liaison and Member to the Division of Counselling Psychology of the British Psychological Society. He was awarded Professor of the Year and Psychologist of the Year by the TPA. He was well known for his work in the field of geropsychology and published many articles on the topic. Even in retirement he continued sharing his knowledge within his local communities and his church community, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Canyon Lake. While he was English by birth, born in Hartlepool, England, his DNA showed he was one hundred percent Irish. However, he was a true Texan by choice. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977. He was the youngest of seven children born to Joseph and Lucy Donnelly Duffy. He is survived by two sisters, Margaret Fox and Clare Grisdale. He leaves his wife Jo Ann, children Sarah Michelle, Clare Marie, and Andrew Justin, as well as their spouses, Ed, João, and Joelle. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Eloise, Maisie, Jonathan, Rebecca, and numerous nieces and nephews. This gentle, kind, wise, thoughtful, peaceful, and positive human being truly enjoyed getting to know the people he came in contact with.
