Mary Catherine "Cathy" Hutto Humphreys, a woman known for her radiant smile and unwavering kindness, passed away on April 29, 2026, in Del Rio, Texas, following a courageous, long-term battle with illness. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by the comfort of family in the home of Ginger and George Davis.
Life and Legacy
Born in Del Rio on July 28, 1950, to Walter and Ellen Hutto, Cathy remained a proud daughter of Texas throughout her life. After graduating from Del Rio High School, she met and married the love of her life, Roger Humphreys of Comstock. Together, they built a life defined by devotion and adventure, sharing a passion for travel and exploring the world side-by-side.
Cathy dedicated her professional life to service. After several years with General Telephone, she found her true calling in education, serving as a teacher's aide and teacher for the local school district, where her warmth and patience touched the lives of countless students.
Family and Devotion
Cathy's heart belonged to her family. While she faced the profound heartbreak of losing her only son, Brandon Humphreys, in 2012, she found immense joy and renewal in her grandson, Hendrix. Now 16, Hendrix was the "real man in her life." She cherished every moment they spent together and spoke of his achievements with boundless pride.
She was a pillar of her family, never missing a birthday or anniversary. Known for her thoughtful nature, she was famous for sending handwritten cards with sweet, personal notes to ensure those she loved felt remembered. At family gatherings, Cathy was the storyteller and the glue—the person who ensured everyone felt welcome, cared for, and heard.
Survivors
Cathy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roger Humphreys, and her son, Brandon Humphreys.
Her memory will be honored and kept alive by Her Grandson: Hendrix Humphreys; Her Siblings: Sister Cindy Hutto and half-brother John Mack Stevenson; Her Extended Family: Ginger and George Davis, and a community of friends and former students who were better for having known her.
Cathy had a natural glow that made her an incredible person to be around. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of kindness, her laughter, and her generous spirit will remain a guiding light for all who loved her.
