Obituary

Mary Ann Frances (Matura) Zylka, 87 of Del Rio, Texas passed peacefully at home in her sleep on February 1, 2025.

A memorial service will be held on February 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Del Rio, Texas. The service will be offered by Fr. Jose Manuel Otaolaurruchi. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.

Mary Ann was born in Trotter Pennsylvania to Paul A. Matura and Anna (Struhalla) Matura on November 10, 1937. Mary Ann is a graduate of Immaculate Conception high school of Connellsville, Pennsylvania and she attended Westmoreland County Community College of Youngwood, Pennsylvania.

On August 1, 1959, Mary Ann married Louis Franklin Alban Zylka, with whom she shared a joyous life of faith, family, and travel. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary Ann was passionate about maintaining a warm and welcoming home. She also loved sewing and home improvement projects—her energy shining through in the handmade items and personal touches.

With a sense of fashion, Mary Ann was often seen wearing heels and red lipstick, a look cherished by her grandchildren who fondly remember her grace and confidence. She enjoyed classic movies and shared a special affection for the American Southwest, frequently traveling with her husband to explore its natural beauty. In retirement, she took interest in functional nutrition and nurturing her family's health. Mary Ann's life was guided by her deep Catholic faith; she was an active member of her parish along with her husband, prayed the rosary regularly, and encouraged others to do the same.

Though her later years were marked by physical challenges that limited her abilities, her unconditional love for her family remained steady and unwavering. She believed wholeheartedly in her loved ones, uplifting them with her warmth, support, and devotion.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Paul David Matura, her sister, Gloria (Matura) Wert and her great granddaughter Tessa Rose Shick.

Mary Ann is survived by her daughter Mary Lou (Zylka) Shick/Darrell, son Louis R. Zylka/former wife Maria Delores (Rios) Zylka, sister Theresa (Matura) Conko/James, sister Kathleen (Matura) Patterson/Charles, Sister-in-law Pam Ogburn/Neil, Brother-in-law Paul Wert, Grandchildren; Aubrey Shick/Cornell Wright, Mark Shick/Carrie, Daniel Shick/Tiffany, Louis Joseph Zylka, great grandchildren; Colton Shick, Alexa Shick, Camille Shick, Emma Shick, Everly Shick, and nieces and nephews; Anastasia Zylka, Peter Zylka/Sarah, Alexandra (Zylka) Hildreth/Andrew, Margaret (Zylka) House/Max, Christina (Zylka) Hitlan/Richard, Mark Wert/Alex, Amy (Wert) Temes/George, Christine Conko, Caroline (Conko) Pirtle/Charles, Kelsey (Patterson) Elmore/Joshua, Denice Ogburn, and Natalie (Ogburn) Smiens.

Mary Ann's family takes comfort in knowing that she is at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her. They will forever be grateful for the gifts of faith, resilience, and love she shared throughout her life.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
