Obituary

Maria Lydia Ramirez Zamudio, 85, was welcomed home to eternal rest on Friday, May 3, 2024, in Del Rio, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Alpine, Texas, on September 3, 1938, to Pedro and Anita Ramirez of Alpine, who preceded her in death. She met her loving husband, Ernesto Zamudio, in Alpine, and they were married on September 6, 1953, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine. He preceded her in death in 2002. They had been married for 48 years.

She worked at JC Penney's from 1981 until she retired. She belonged to the Alba Social Club of Del Rio, was an active PTA participant, and served as a member of LULAC Council 4338. She was a devout Catholic who served as a Eucharist minister at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed gardening, sewing and making her own clothes, spending time with her family, and playing with her dog, Daisy.

In addition, Maria was preceded in death by her son, Ernest Zamudio, Jr. (Christy) of Portland, Oregon; her brother, Cornelio C. Ramirez (†Cecilia, † Yolanda) of Alpine; her brother-in-law, Roberto Zamudio, of Del Rio; and a nephew, Miguel Angel Ramirez of Alpine.

She is survived by her three daughters, Rosemary Z. Munro († Blake) of Del Rio, Cynthia Zamudio of San Antonio, Texas, and Mary Lou Corpus-Zamudio (Eli) of Temple, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Corina Ramirez Brown († Albert) of Alpine; and a sister-in-law, Alicia Z. Talamantez († Alfredo), of Del Rio.

In addition, she is survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, seven nieces and six nephews. The grandchildren are Vanessa Stearnes, Vivian Stearnes, Miranda Tucker, Jennie Zamudio, Selina Velasquez (Marcus), Gina Costilla, Erika Atkinson (Cory), Regina Diesslin, Aaron Vachon (Nicola Branch), Edwin Corpus (Samantha), Philippe Vachon, Keily Corpus, and Paul Vachon. The great-grandchildren are Michael Stearnes, Nataleigh Velasquez, Marc Velasquez, Logan Tucker, Kindall Hellman, Quinton Plagmann, Kinnadi Butts, Oakley Diesslin, Phoenix Atkinson, Rosalina Vachon, Everly Vachon, and Violet Vachon.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM; recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart  Catholic Church.

The pallbearers will be Vanessa Stearnes, Vivian Stearnes, Miranda Tucker, Jennie Zamudio, Selina Velasquez, Gina Costilla, Erika Atkinson, Regina Diesslin, Keily Corpus, Mary Ann Brown, and Betty Brown.

The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

A reception will be held at the church following interment.
