Maria de Jesus "Sue" Saunders, age 69, entered into rest Saturday, March 9, 2019. She was born on February 13, 1950 in Del Rio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband John Saunders and parents, Cesario and Petra Constacio Riojas. Sue graduated from Selma High School in 1968. Sue enjoyed traveling and lived in many locations throughout the US. She even worked for a year as a flight attendant for PanAm Airlines. Sue married John Webb Saunders on December 5, 1986 in San Angelo, Texas. They were married for 31 years until her husband passed on in 2017. She earned her Master's Degree in Psychology from Angelo State University. Sue was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She taught Sunday school and seminary lessons. She and her husband had a calling and passion for caring for their young adults group at church, as well as sponsoring and caring for the missionaries. Sue loved family gatherings and hosting get togethers with friends and family. She was known for her amazing hospitality and great cooking. She loved her nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by three brothers: Cesar Riojas of San Jose, CA, Pete Riojas of Fresno, CA and Danny Riojas of San Antonio, TX as well as three sisters: Yolanda Macias of San Jose, CA, Octavia Foster of Olathe, Kansas, and Rita Riojas of Sacramento, CA, stepdaughter Justina Saunders of Eldorado, TX , stepmother Maria Riojas of Del Rio, TX and five step-siblings; Jesse Rodriguez, Theresa Rodriguez, Brenda Cortinas, Liz Merkel, all of San Antonio, TX and Linda Grant of Del Rio, TX and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Family and friends as well as others whose lives she touched are invited to her funeral. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home at 2020 N Bedell Ave. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1315 Kings Way. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
