Maria de los Angeles Gonzalez of Del Rio, Texas, peacefully passed away on October 21st, in Del Rio at the age of 95. She was born in Del Rio on August 2nd 1930, to Marcelino Gonzalez and Emilia Reyes Gonzalez. Maria, better known as "Tia Gela" to her family, attended Escuela Primaria "Miguel Hidalgo" and Academia Comercial "Acuna" graduating in 1949. She then moved to San Antonio Texas where she attended Draughon's Business College and later received her Certificate of Equivalency for High School Achievement in 1958.
Maria began a long rewarding and distinguished career as a Federal Employee in November 1954. She started her Civil Service employment at the Department of Air Force Kelly AFB in San Antonio January 1955 to September 1968. She transferred to the Department of Air Force Laughlin AFB, Texas in March 1969 where she was assigned to ATC, 3646th Pilot Training Wing, Operations Division as a Clerical Assistant (Statistical-Stenography), where she was promoted into the Data Automation Branch. In 1973, she was promoted to the Management Section of the Data Automation Branch at Laughlin. Maria eventually became a shift supervisor at Data Automation and her work was invaluable to the Air Force during "Operation Desert Storm".
Throughout her many years of employment with the Air Force, she received many awards and recognition's for her service, all of which she took immense pride in. These included Superior Performance awards for Sustained Superior Performance, and she also received countless Outstanding Performance Ratings. Maria retired August of 1992 having honorably and proudly completed 3 7 years of service to our country.
Maria was a member of Iglesia Bautista Buen Pastor serving as treasurer for many years. She was also active in the community with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. She enjoyed attending her nieces and nephews school performances, recitals and celebrations. She was an integral part in the support of all her siblings higher education and attainment of their College Degrees as well as those of her nieces and nephews.
Maria de los Angeles was preceded in death by her beloved parents Marcelino and Emilia Reyes Gonzalez. She is survived by her sisters, Raquel G Hernandez and Rebeca G. Riojas, brothers Salvador Gonzalez, Pedro Gonzalez, Marcelino Gonzalez, and Abel Gonzalez and many loving Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services for Maria will be conducted under the direction of Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.
The visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 2020 N. Bedell Ave, Del Rio, Texas.
A chapel service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 2020 N. Bedell Ave, Del Rio, Texas.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 5144 Hwy 90 East, Del Rio, Texas.
