Obituary

Maria Guadalupe "Lupe" Garza, age 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 10, 2026, in Del Rio, Texas. She was born on October 13, 1928, in Jiménez, Coahuila, Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfredo G. Garza; her parents, Jesús Villalpando Reyes and Gabriela Enríquez López; and her siblings: José Villalpando, Carmen Talamantez, Arturo Villalpando, Virginia De Hoyos, Apolonio Villalpando, Reynaldo Villalpando, and Adriana Jacquez.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Maria Elena (Marcos) Ramon, Amalia (Reynaldo) Venegas, Dora (Roberto) Martinez, Maritsa "Pina" (Steve) Morris, Delia Leticia Forester, and Gabriela Garza. She is also lovingly survived by 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Her beloved grandsons, Rey Venegas Jr., Freddy Venegas, Marcos J. Ramon, Joey Rodriguez, Steven J. Morris, Kevin Jay Forester, and Cristian Vela will have the honor of serving as pallbearers.

After retiring from her position with the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District, Lupe remained active and full of life. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and quilting. She especially loved cooking and sharing meals with family and friends. The aroma of her cooking often drifted throughout the neighborhood, and anyone who came to her kitchen door was warmly welcomed with a smile and the invitation, "Pásale, siéntate a comer."

Lupita will be remembered for her resilience and strength, her deep love for family, and the warmth she shared with everyone around her. She will continue to live in the hearts of those blessed to know her and will be forever cherished.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM; recitation of the holy rosary at 6:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 2020 N. Bedell Ave., Del Rio, Texas.

Visitation will continue Friday, March 13, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM, at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 510 Wernett St, Del Rio, Texas.

The interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 5144 Hwy 90 East, Del Rio, Texas.
