Obituary

Maria H. Alcaraz, age 91, entered into rest on June 27, 2025, in Del Rio, Texas. She was born on May 13, 1934, in El Moral, Coahuila, Mexico. She was a strong-willed woman with a heart full of compassion and a spirit that inspired everyone around her. She was a loving mother and grandmother, a caring neighbor, and a devoted friend who cherished her faith deeply. As a devoted Catholic, her faith guided her actions and brought her strength throughout her life.

She loved tending her garden and had a remarkable green thumb — every flower she touched would bloom beautifully, and every plant she nurtured grew big and vibrant. Her garden was her sanctuary, a place where she found peace and joy. Cooking was another of her passions; she expressed her love through the delicious meals she prepared for her family and friends. Food was her love language, and her kitchen was often filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting aroma of her dishes.

She will be terribly missed but will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Severiano Herrera and Josefina Castorena; her husband, Rosendo Alcaraz; her son, Rosendo Alcaraz Jr.; her daughter, Elva Marta Flores; her granddaughter, Rosa Maria Alcaraz; and her son-in-law, Jose Luis Zuñiga. She was also the last surviving of her brothers and sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Maria De La Luz (Juan Jose) Richarte, Josefina Zuñiga, Sandra (Reymundo) Yañez, and Gabriela (Manuel) Avila; her sons, Santos (Olga) Alcaraz and Jose Antonio (Judith) Alcaraz.

She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Juan Jose, Gabriela, Rosendo, Yadira, Karla, Brenda, Mardia, Mayra, Maritza, Jose Luis Jr., Miguel Angel, Juana (Janie), Aracely, Sandra, Tamara, Raymundo Jr., Santos, Jose Guadalupe, Francisco Javier, Rosenda, Manuel Mauricio Jr., Luis Fernando, Mark Anthony, Ariana, and Rebekah. She leaves behind 42 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
