With deep love and sorrow, we, the children of Maria Guadalupe (Lupe) Roman, share the news of her passing on February 21, 2025, at the age of 90. She left this world at her home in Del Rio, Texas. Lupe was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and she will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Born into humble beginnings in La Pryor, Texas, Lupe worked alongside her family in the fields, where she along with her brothers and sisters found great joy in being able to help their family. Though they had little, their hearts were full. She said our grandfather instilled in them the importance of working with gratitude and joy, always offering their labor to God.

A lifelong and faithful Catholic, Lupe was a devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for 62 years. She lived a blessed and pain-free life, always trusting in God's healing power. many times she say, "Dios me tiene sana" ("God keeps me healthy"), and encouraged us to trust in His care. Once her youngest child started school, she went to work at the school district cafeteria where she made lifelong friends.

Lupe loved God, her family, and the outdoors. Even in her later years, she took great pride in maintaining her home—mowing the lawn, raking leaves, and tending to her plants. She found peace and joy in working outside.

Lupe was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose I. Roman; her son, Mario Roman; her parents; and five of her siblings.

She is survived by her children, who were the greatest joy of her life: Yolanda Celedon (Ernesto), Teri Balderas (Alex), Jim Roman (Eloisa), Joe Roman (Maggie), and Rick Roman (Laura). Her legacy also lives on in her 16 cherished grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Each grandchild and great-grandchild brought her extra joy, and she will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

As we mourn the loss of our mother, we thank God for the wonderful, faith-filled woman He blessed us with. Her unwavering love, wisdom, and strength shaped the lives of each of us. We find peace in knowing that we will one day be reunited with her in Heaven.

The visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.

The mass of christian burial will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
