Lloyd Lamoyne Argabright, 80, passed away May 20, 2015 in San Angelo, Texas. Born on October 30, 1934 in Howe, Nebraska, Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Ross Argabright and Maude Twila Hallowell Argabright; his brothers, Ernest Argabright, Eugene Argabright and Clyde Argabright; and his sisters, Ruby Burr, Irene Trenerry, Dorothy Kammerer and Laura Duncan. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 40 years, Nancy Becerra Argabright of Del Rio; sons, Russell Argabright of Hastings, Nebraska and Brian Argabright of Del Rio; daughters, Cheri Wilder and husband Bryan of Stafford, Texas; Dana Huth and husband Dudley of Cedar Park, Texas; Melody Dalgleish and husband Ben of Round Rock, Texas; and Adriana Becerra of Del Rio, Texas. He is also survived by his grandsons, Jed Huth, Ben Dalgleish, Jon Dalgleish and David Dalgeish; granddaughters, Alyssa Muriel, Emma Huth, Kristin Leigh Meilert, Kaitlin Nicole Meilert and Maddie Dalgleish; and great-grandchildren, Paityn, Chance, Brooklynn, Jace and Talyn. While Lloyd grew up on a farm in Nebraska, Lloyd's life would take him around the world and back again. Lloyd graduated from high school in White Cloud, Kansas and eventually set out on the path that would lead him to the United States Air Force and the chance to learn what was beyond the state he called home. He often joked that he joined the air force to get away from Nebraska and was disappointed when he was sent to Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha … Nebraska. Lloyd spent more than 24 years in the United States Air Force, retiring in May 1978. During his illustrious career he visited countless countries including Libya, Morocco, Spain, Italy, Majorca, Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Ireland, Canada, Mexico, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Phillippines, Taiwan, Japan, the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Azores. A meteorologist, he was stationed at bases in Illinois, California, Libya, Morocco, North Dakota, New Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, Arkansas, Germany, Italy, Nebraska and Texas. He took his role very seriously knowing it was his forecasts that determined a pilot's success in whatever mission they were tasked. Lloyd made sure to document his travels well. He always carried his trusty camera and plenty of film to make sure to be able to show the folks back home the amazing sights he encountered. In the late 1960's, Lloyd was assigned to Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio. While working for SIC Finance Company he met a young woman named Nancy Becerra. Their courtship lasted the miles of travel, the turmoil of the Vietnam War and eventually led them to marry on December 15, 1974. Lloyd retired at Offutt Air Force Base and returned to Del Rio in the summer of 1978. And it was in Del Rio that Lloyd made a lifetime of good and trusted friends. Lloyd worked for Gibson's before joining the Texas tradition that is H-E-B grocery stores. His career with H-E-B took him throughout the state as he set up stores in places like Kerrville, Pearsall and Eagle Pass. He helped train countless managers and worked with a bevy of people he spoke highly of well after his retirement from the store. Lloyd also sold insurance for A.L. Williams with his office located inside the Del Rio National Bank in downtown Del Rio. Numbers and projections were always a fascinating hobby for Lloyd and he enjoyed being able to use that hobby help people who needed it. Away from work, Lloyd was just as active. He was once a deacon in a local Presbyterian church, was an accomplished bowler with trophies from the air force and local leagues, owned a miniature golf course along with his wife Nancy, served in various positions, including president, of the Del Rio National Little League and player agent for the Del Rio Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was also actively involved in girls softball and even kept a team photo of the Jaspers team he coached more than 20 years ago on a desk in his office. His work with Babe Ruth baseball was recognized in 1999 when he was presented with the David Sunflower Seeds Babe Ruth Baseball National Scorekeeper of the Year Award. The presentation was made even more special because he was nominated by his very good friend Bill Jewell. Though health issues cut his time with youth sports short, Lloyd still enjoyed attending Del Rio Rams and Queens games until his passing. Though he was once issued a lifetime pass by then-athletic director Lupe DeHoyos, Lloyd always purchased a senior pass to make sure he'd have a seat to watch Del Rio in action. Del Rio was his home, but give him an atlas and a legal pad and he'd happily plot a travel plan for his next adventure. He journeyed throughout these United States, and for the last 40 years his traveling companion was always his wife Nancy. Lloyd and Nancy saw the bright lights of Las Vegas, took on the traffic of New York, embraced the culture of California, soaked up the sun of the Bahamas, and made sure to have fun at every rest stop, diner, tourist attraction and casino they encountered along the highways and byways of this nation. Nancy was Lloyd's rock. Through 40 years they cherished each other, were always by each other's side and were always there for each other through the good times and the bad times. There was nothing they couldn't, or wouldn't, face together. Lloyd leaves behind countless friends, and to try to name them all would be a monumental task. Through these difficult times, their messages of hope and prayers have helped keep his family strong. His family is eternally grateful to see how he was able to impact so many people's lives during his time on earth. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 5:00PM-9:00PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Chapel service will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 11:00AM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Full Military Honor s will be conducted by Laughlin Air Force Base Honor Guard.
