Juan M. Guerra in the presence of his wife, children and grandchildren peacefully passed away on March 9 , 2013 here in Del Rio. He was born in Laredo, Texas on July 29, 1921 to Juan B. and Patrocina G. Juan was preceded in death by his parents, brother Manuel (Tex) and sister in law Ruby.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Angelina Guerra, sons John Guerra and wife Mary of Corpus Christi, Danny Guerra of San Antonio, Ralph Guerra and wife Suzanne of Lake Jackson, Luis Guerra and wife Sandra of Del Rio, Marcos Guerra of Austin, Mike Guerra and wife Patsy of St Paul, MN, Oscar Guerra and wife Regina of Chesapeake, VA, daughters Cindy Chapman and husband Greg of Maryville, MO and Julie Urby and husband Mark of Hondo. Juan is also survived by grandchildren: David, Arthur, Ruben, Jessica, Joenie, Oscar, Adam, Jennifer, Angelica, Yslea, Adriana, Nicholas, Gina, Louie, Gabri, Araceli, Alberto, Andy, Ray, Michael, Cristy, John, Carrie, Sarah and Sylvia, 16 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.
Juan received schooling in Laredo and attended Laredo Jr. College. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and proudly served his country in World War II. After his military duty, he worked with the civil service for 37 years at Air Force bases in Laredo and Del Rio. He retired in 1988 from Laughlin and resided in Del Rio.
His family remembers him as a hardworking father who loved spending time with family. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren. His favorite moments included family trips, watching the Texas Longhorns, the New York Yankees and John Wayne westerns.
The family wishes to thank his caregivers Dino Padilla and Maru Guevara for their caring and support. To the medical community especially Dr. Lindsey, Dr. Rigney, Robin and other staff and especially to Bonnie and Edna of the Val Verde Hospice.
Pallbearers are Luis Guerra, Jr., Adam Guerra, Oscar Guerra, Mike Guerra, Marcos Guerra and Luis Guerra.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 5:00 pm to 9:00pm at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home with a Rosary Vigil at 7:00 pm.
Funeral service celebration will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 12 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Pius officiating.
Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
