Obituary

Joseph Anthony Garcia went to be with the Lord on December 6th at the age of 79. He is remembered as a loving Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and Friend. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Doreen Garcia, Daughter Luanne Hall and Son-in-law James Hall, Daughter Denise Dupont, Sister Carmen Quijano, Grandson Justin Dupont and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Leon Sr. and Lucille, Brothers Leo, Mike and Danny, Son Joe Parrillo, and Nephew Louie Ramos.Joe was born on April 27th 1943 in New York City, NY to Leon Garcia Sr. and Lucille Robles. He lived in New York City until the age of 9, then the family moved to Warwick, NY where they lived until the age of 13. The family then moved to Middletown NY where Joe went on to attend Middletown High School, graduating in 1962. He learned the skill of barbering from his Father Leon while still in high school and after graduating he began working in Warwick, NY as a barber. He continued to work as a barber for more than 50 years. Joe met Doreen Bellino in Middletown and they later moved to California and were married in 1966. While in California their first daughter Luanne was born. They moved back to Middletown, NY in 1967 and several years later welcomed their second daughter Denise in 1970. In 1979 the family moved to San Antonio, TX. Shortly after moving to San Antonio, Luanne and Denise began playing soccer and Joe was very involved in supporting them along the way. This included traveling to many tournaments across the country. All of the players and their families became close and formed one big soccer family. Everyone who knew Joe at this time will remember what he drove to and from the soccer games, they all wanted to ride with Joe in the "blue van" that always seemed to have some good music blasting. On one occasion, Joe had the entire team onboard and they were having so much fun he took a wrong turn. The coach was frantic wondering where the team was because they were late and were not going to have time to prepare and warm-up before the game, and this was way before cell phones existed. In 1991 Luanne married James Hall and they moved away from Texas because James was in the Navy. Joe was very proud of James and really enjoyed his time visiting Luanne and James in Great Lakes, Illinois and Jacksonville, Florida where James was stationed. In 1992 Denise married Ernie Dupont and in 1995 Joe welcomed his only Grandson, Justin Dupont. Joe was always so proud of Justin and loved him very much. Justin's "Poppy" was always there for tee-ball, soccer, boy scouts and whatever other activities that he was involved in.Joe and Doreen moved to Stockdale, TX in 1998 and Joe continued to work as a barber in Seguin until he retired in 2011 and he and Doreen moved to Canyon Lake. While living at Canyon Lake, Joe was able to spend quality time with his Nieces Alexa and Briana, and Nephew Preston who all called him "Uncle Joe". He enjoyed watching them grow up and attending their many sporting events. Joe and Doreen moved to Gruene, TX in 2018.Joe never met a stranger, and he left a memorable impression on everyone. Joe was a huge sports fan whose favorite teams were the Jets, Yankees, Spurs and UTSA Roadrunners. He enjoyed watching football, basketball, baseball and would watch just about any sport that included a ball. For anyone who is planning to attend the services, instead of traditional funeral attire, we encourage you to wear a jersey, t-shirt, or polo representing your favorite team. We know Joe would have loved it. Visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in New Braunfels on Friday December 16th, from 9am – 12pm.
