Joe R. Veliz, age 83, entered into rest peacefully on June 29, 2017 surrounded by family. He was born on August 16, 1933 in Del Rio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Veliz, his parents Jose and Juana Veliz. Brothers Pedro Veliz, Alfonso Veliz and sister Nila Quino�ez. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Jose C. Veliz of Del Rio, Texas, Francisco Veliz and wife Beverly of Del Rio, Texas. Daughters Elizabeth V. Sosa and husband George of Del Rio, Texas, Ana Maria Maldonado and husband Rudy of Del Rio, Texas. Brother Encarnacion (Chon) Veliz and wife Susana of Irving, Texas. Also survived by his grandchildren, Sheila Elise Sosa, Jose Veliz III, Vanessa Veliz, Rodolfo Jose Maldonado, Rogelio Maldonado, Lisa Marie Maldonado, 11 great-grandchildren. Amistad Lake was his second home. Joe's favorite hobby that he loved so much was fishing with his sons. Jose (Joe) was one of the original members of the Big Friendly Bass Club of Del Rio. He was a loving and caring husband to his wife of 51 years. A devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Playing loteria with the family was also a favorite pastime he enjoyed. Sunday services was so important to Joe. He will surely be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Gentlemen with the honor of Pallbearers; Jose C. Veliz, Francisco Veliz, George Sosa, Rudy Maldonado III, Everett Quintana, Rudy Maldonado, and Roy Maldonado. Honorary Pallbearers, Encarnacion "Chon" Veliz and members of the Big Friendly Bass Club. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
