Jose Rodriguez Gomez, lovingly known as "Yopo," passed away on March 9th 2026. He was born on July 27, 1948, and lived a life defined by hard work, love for his family, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone who knew him. Jose now joins the family members who went before him, his parents Concepcion R Gomez, Mateo O. Gomez and his siblings Jimmy R. Gomez, Mario R. Gomez, Lucia Bruce, and Mateo Gomez, III.
Yopo was known for his fun-loving personality and his ability to make everyone around him laugh. He was never one to be too serious and was always joking, bringing smiles and laughter wherever he went. His sense of humor and playful spirit were a big part of who he was, and those who knew him will always remember the joy he brought into their lives.
Above all else, Yopo loved his family deeply. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 58 Years, Margarita (Margie) Gomez, a proud father to Michelle (Felipe Cardenas), Jose (Joey) Gomez Jr., Bryan Gomez, and Nancy Gomez. His Siblings Ernesto Gomez, Elena Parson, Rosa (Cliff Black) and his greatest joy was being surrounded by his family, including his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever carry his love and memories in their hearts.
Jose "Yopo" Rodriguez Gomez will be remembered for his warm heart, his laughter, and the love he shared so freely with everyone around him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will live on through his family, the stories shared, and the memories that will be treasured forever.
He will be deeply loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 2020 N. Bedell Ave., Del Rio, Texas.
Visitation will continue on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 PM at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 509 W. Garza St, Del Rio, Texas.
The interment will be held at San Felipe Cemetery.
