Jose Rosenberg Arredondo, affectionately known as Nene, passed away at the age of 96 on May 4, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and love for his family. He was born and raised in the neighborhood of San Felipe in Del Rio,Texas, on May 28, 1927, where he learned the value of diligence and determination from a young age.

Tragedy struck early in Nene's life when his father passed away in a tragic accident, leaving his mother, Dolores Arredondo, to care for him and his siblings. Despite the challenges, Dolores ran a general store in San Felipe, where Nene learned the importance of hard work and perseverance and helped his mother from a young age by selling produce from his bicycle all over the neighborhood. His mother's dedication to his education led him to Sacred Heart Catholic School in Del Rio, Texas, where he received a solid foundation in academics and faith.

At the age of 17, Nene volunteered and joined the Navy during the height of WWII, demonstrating his patriotism and commitment to serving his country. After his service, he returned to Del Rio, Texas, after living in San Diego, California, to care for and provide for his mother.

In 1961 Nene met the love of his life, Cecilia Gomez, at Memo's Restaurant when she was visiting family in Texas. They lost touch when she returned to California. But years later, they ran into each other in California at a dance where Nene confidently said to her, "You will be the mother of my children," and they married shortly after. Together, they raised four children, Joe, Henry, David, and Dolores, sharing a bond built on love, respect, and mutual support.

Nene was a true entrepreneur, following in his mother's footsteps, and opened and operated El Camino Club. He was a familiar face in town, known for his friendly demeanor, ability to connect with everyone he met, and his great sense of humor.

Although dedicated to his work, Nene always prioritized his family. He instilled in his children the values of hard work, faith, and education, ensuring that each of them received college degrees.

Jose is preceded in death by his father, Eduardo; his mother Dolores Escobedo Arredondo and siblings Jose PepeArredondo, Eduardo Arredondo, Raul Arredondo, Miguel Arredondo, Arturo Arredondo, Rafaela Cortinas, Lilia Sotelo, and Guillermina Arredondo.

Nene's memory will be cherished by his beloved wife, Cecilia, his children Joe (Yvette)of Alpine; Henry (Kathy) of Del Rio; David (Maricela)of Del Rio; and Dolores Cowan (Clay)of Del Rio. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Joey Arredondo Jessica Arredondo, Sarah Arredondo, David Ryan Arredondo, Alyssa Arredondo, Henry Polo Arredondo, Carlos Arredondo, Mia Arredondo, Jacob Cowan, Zoe Arredondo, Gabriel Arredondo and great- grandchildren Rylan, Cody and Maddi. Also left to cherish his memory is his sister, Guillermina Martinez and many nieces and nephews whom he adored. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kindness, generosity, unwavering devotion to his family, and the laughter he brought to those around him. Nene now rests in peace, reunited with his parents and siblings who preceded him in death.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM; recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
