Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day- and not to me, but also to all who longed for His appearing" Johnny Travis Felton (J.T.), beloved husband, father, grandpa, father in law, uncle, friend and retired public servant for Val Verde County, passed away at his home in Del Rio, Texas on February 18, 2019 at the age of 93 years old. Born in Brackettville, Texas (Fort Clark), on April 4, 1925, son of Joseph W. Felton (Chicago, Illinois) and Estela Flores Felton (Brackettville, Texas.) J.T. was the youngest of his sisters and brother, Emily Felton, Junie Mae Felton, Tommy Felton. He was a devout catholic, baptized in Brackettville Catholic Church and was currently a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Del Rio, Texas. He was schooled in San Felipe I.S. D. In 1941, he joined the United States Navy, at the age of 16 where he was discharged because of his age. Two years later, he joined the military this time in the Army with the U.S. Third Army stationed in Germany, to serve under General George S. Patton. In 1945, upon returning from Germany he was stationed in Carlisle Barracks Military Base in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He served his remaining years in 503rd MP Battalion, before completing his years of service in the United States Army. J.T. holds the distinction of being one of the oldest, experienced elected officials, law enforcement officers and Government employee in the State of Texas if not the United States. He began his law enforcement career in 1976 before being appointed in 1979 as a Deputy Constable for Val Verde County, PCT. # 4. In 1992, J.T. ran for and was elected Constable for Val Verde County, and assumed office January 1993 and continuously without ever losing an election for Constable. Constable J.T. had a total of 40 years of Law Enforcement service to the citizens of the great State of Texas and Val Verde County, until his retirement in December, 2016. In September, 2015 the City of Del Rio, Texas, Mayor Pro Tem, Rowland Garza, and the Honorable Judge Efrain Valdez proclaimed September 24th, 2015 to be: Constable Johnny Felton's Day. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Estela, his siblings, Emily, Junie Mae, and Tommy, and two children, Gary Douglas Felton and Johnny Felton Warner. He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 37 years, Ermelinda Felton. J.T., is survived by his daughters and sons. Margie Lopez and husband, Jesse Lopez, Mary Cannon, Maria and husband, Richard P. Bryant, Carlos and wife, Aida Cortez, Araceli Felton Faz, Shirley Felton, Bonnie Flores, Luvenia Yanez, Emily Felton, Rosemary Thomas, Rose Marie Felton, Yolanda Felton, Joseph Felton, Perry Jay Felton, Terry Lee Felton, Johnny Felton, Jr., Peggy Ann Otter, Patricia Welch, Kim Felton, Martha Felton, Roberto Felton and Thomas Felton. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and sisters- in-law. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM; Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Official pallbearers are Jamal Bryant, Vidal Espinoza, La Ron Bryant, Jose Berreles, James Espinoza and Roman Faz. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
