Jesus Adams Pena, 78, of Del Rio, passed away on May 20th from natural causes, surrounded by his loving family.

Jesus was born on September 15, 1944 to Abelardo & Ernestina Pena in Cd Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico. After graduating from San Felipe High School in 1964, he went on to study Education Psychology at North Texas State University and Education at Sul Ross State University.

After graduation, he landed his first job as a history teacher for the Del Rio School District. This kick started a long and impactful 31-year career in education, spanning from teacher to counselor to principal to Director of Transportation to School Administrator. In 1972, he met Maria Lourdes Cantu, and they wed in 1978, going on to have two children, Jesus Jr & Cristina.

Jesus was a force of nature, love for people, caring, supportive, mentor, teacher, leader and inspiration to the local community. He was determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. He served his family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was seen as a hero and charismatic person. He was unendingly proud of Jesse, Cristina, and Lourdes and always tried his best to support them.

Jesus was also a passionate gardener and could often be found watering his grass at any available opportunity or helping to improve the yards of all of his neighbors. He loved being a cowboy, lived the ranching lifestyle, owning El Rancho De La Piramide in Mexico, love for cattle and animals, instilling the love of outdoors to his children. He was an ardent volunteer, serving as a member and the United Civic Organization president, and Eagle Scout and Boy Scout leader.

Anyone who knew Jesus knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Our father was a true role model that we will always look up to. Jesus was predeceased by Abelardo, Ernestina, Alfonso, and Rogelio. He is survived by Lourdes, Jesse, Cristina, Reagan, Abelardo, and Rolando.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM; Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.

The funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Services will conclude after the mass.

Father, you are now at peace but will live on forever in our hearts. We love you so much. Rest in peace.
