Jesus "Jesse" Vasquez Hinojosa, Sr., age 86, went to his eternal rest on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. Jesse was born August 6, 1938 in Donna, Texas to Pedro and Nicolasa Vasquez Hinojosa. He enjoyed growing up with his sisters and brother. He loved his family fiercely, and went to work at the age of 12 to help provide for his family picking cotton in the fields of Lubbock, Texas. Shortly after, his family moved to New Braunfels and he continued to take care of his family while also dreaming of his first car. In fact, it was his car that initially caught Rosa Gonzales' eye and led to them dating. Jesse married Rosa in 1968 and they had 3 children in addition to Rosa's daughter, Linda. With a strong work ethic, he worked day and night shifts as a press operator for 35 years supporting his family and of course having a great ride, his favorite being the 1990 metallic red Camaro. In his later years, he enjoyed retirement by working more. You might have seen him in the kitchen at Holiday Inn (where he invented the Super Nachos), in the kitchen at Burger King, or maybe even mowing lawns. One of his all time favorites though was volunteering at The Senior Citizen Center. He loved serving others–whether at The Senior Citizen Center, donating blood for decades, taking ice cream to and visiting with the elderly in nursing homes. Taking care of others brought him great joy. And, so did the Dallas Cowboys! He was an avid Cowboys fan, just wishing they would throw the Hail Mary more often! However, nothing made him happier than time with his family–sitting together at church, potluck meals, holiday celebrations (especially New Year's), bowling, playing pool, playing dominos. Still sporting his classic cowboy hat and boots, he wanted to stay active even in his 80s –heading to the Frisco Senior Center every day to socialize, play pool, lift weights, and of course eat snacks. And one thing that never changed, he loved listening to George Strait and watching Johnny Carson reruns before bedtime. From playing games to everyday living, he was always ready to listen to others and offer simple advice with a profound impact, the most profound being that of his faith. Jesse was baptized into the Catholic faith, attended Holy Family Catholic Church in New Braunfels for over 30 years (where he also mowed the lawn), was a parishioner at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and attended St. Francis of Assisi as well as Fellowship Church in his later years of life in Frisco, Texas. Romans 10:9 says "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." He loved the Lord and worked to serve Him. Jesse's persistent faith and service to others will be a lasting legacy for his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Rosa Gonzales Hinojosa, parents Pedro and Nicolasa Vasquez Hinojosa, daughter Angie Kiesling, step son-in-law Danny Valdez, brother Frank Hinojosa, step great granddaughter Noelani Garcia, and numerous loved ones.Jesse is survived by his daughter Priscilla Vela and husband Phillip; son, Jesse Hinojosa, Jr. and wife Ceci; son-in-law, Thomas Kiesling; step daughter Rosa "Linda" Valdez née Garza; sisters Augustina Rosales and Mary Villarreal; grandchildren Jonathan Gomez, Kristy Gonzalez, Joshua Gomez, Trinity Vela, Benjamin Vela, Liliana Hinojosa, Zoe Hinojosa, and Daxton Hinojosa; great grandchildren, Alexander (AJ) Gonzalez and McKade Jesse Gomez; step grandchildren Debbie Valdez, Daniel Valdez and wife Valerie, Dionna Rodriguez and husband Nate, Davey Valdez; step great grandchildren Demmi Valdez and Shaun Flores, Reyna Oen and husband Adam, Cristalyn Valdez, Noah Valdez, Adrien Valdez, Micaela Valdez, Nathaniel Rodriguez, John Valdez, Noah Rodriguez, Ariana Rodriguez, and Jayden Valdez; and step great great grandchildren Avery and Wyatt Oen, Ari Flores, and Mateo Valdez; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. A public visitation with recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 5:00-8:00pm (Rosary at 6:30pm) at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 415 South Business 35, New Braunfels, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 10:00AM at Holy Family Catholic Church at 245 S. Hidalgo Ave, New Braunfels, TX. The graveside service will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery II on FM482, New Braunfels, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels (Comal County or Collin County) provided through the Senior Citizen Centers in New Braunfels and Frisco where Jesse spent much of his time giving back to the community and connecting with others.
