Jaime Ortiz passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2024

Born and raised in Del Rio, Jaime worked for many years as a social worker. He felt strongly that It is one's responsibility to give back to the community because he believed that what he achieved in life, was made possible by those who went before him and struggled to facilitate his journey.

He was driven by the belief that we can all make a difference in someone's life, as even the smallest effort can have a ripple effect.

Always an optimist, Jaime's strong faith in God, helped him navigate the challenges of life. Why worry unnecessarily when God is in control.

To his children, Jaime stressed the love and importance of family. To him, material possessions came and went but family remained the foundation and strength of life. He enjoyed time spent with his wife, his children and their spouses, his grandchildren, his siblings and all his family members, including his in laws, whom he considered a big part of his family.

He loved his grandchildren, delighting in watching them grow and become their own person.

Jaime attended Texas A and I University, in Kingsville where he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. He received his Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan. He enjoyed the friendships made as a brother of the fraternity as well as the friendships made throughout his life.

Preceded in death by his wife Alicia G. Ortiz; parents Doroteo and Eulalia Ortiz, his father and mother-in-law, Ladislao and Marina Gonzalez, his brother's in law, Ladislao Gonzalez, Ernesto Gonzalez, Christobal Gonzalez and sisters in law, Gloria Camacho, Carmen Saenz, Letty Padilla and Sandra Reyes.

He is survived by his daughter, Faith and husband Mark Nieto from Boerne. Texas along with his grandchildren, Jaime Andres Nieto, Ariella Nieto and Ava Nieto, all of Boerne, Texas; his son Marcos Antonio Ortiz and his wife Giovanna from San Antonio, Texas; his brother Jose Doroteo Ortiz and wife Sylvia from San Antonio, Texas; his siter Rosa Ortiz from Del Rio, Texas; his sisters in law, Toni Ybarra and Velma Zambrano (Jose) from Del Rio, Texas and his sister in law Rosie Lopez (Juan) from Weatherford, Texas; and brothers in law Daniel Reyes and Robert Padilla from Del Rio, Texas. Jaime is also survived by numerous uncles and aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives.

The visitation will be held on Friday, November 1st from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
