Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and love that, with family and friends by her side, we announce the passing of Irma Elda Avalos of Del Rio, Texas, who entered eternal rest on March 12, 2026, at 6:44 PM.

Irma passed on to her next journey surrounded by the love and prayers of her family. She will lovingly be remembered by her son, Adrian Avalos, her sister Pat Bell, her nephew Stanley Bell, Jr., her niece Sharmaine Duncan, and many extended relatives, friends, and generations of students whose lives she touched throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac H. Avalos, Sr., and Minerva Avalos, and her beloved brother, Isaac "Bubba" Avalos, Jr.

Irma was born on January 3, 1958, and raised in Del Rio, Texas, the community she proudly called home her entire life. She dedicated 40 years to education as an elementary teacher and P.E. coach, helping shape the lives of countless children in the Del Rio community. Many students remember her encouragement, her strength, and the way she believed in them when they needed it most.

Outside of her work in education, Irma loved being surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed gatherings filled with laughter, music, dancing, good food, and a backyard barbecue with the people she loved most. She had a strong spirit and a joyful presence that made people feel welcome wherever she went.

Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Del Rio, and her faith guided her in the way she cared for others and the way she lived her life.

Irma will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and the many members of the Del Rio community whose lives she touched. Her memory, her faith, and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
