Obituary

Irene R. Martinez was born on March 1, 1936 and was called to heaven on 8/13/2024. She was the 4th child of 4 children born to Simon R. Rodriguez & Diamantina A.Rodriguez in Allende, Coah.Mexico.

Irene went to Del Rio Schools and as a young lady traveled with her family to Mexico to visit family and leisure. She went on to Abilene,Tx. for School of Cosmetology and graduated making this a stepping stone for her lifelong business career.

She married Mr. Fidelio Cortinas,Jr .and they had a daughter Yolanda R. Cortinas.

Irene prospered in her business at Irene's Beauty Salon as a Cosmetologist and business woman.

She was very active in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She would assist in fundraisers by helping in the church "Jamaicas" Festivals and also would assist in bringing carnivals to help raise money for the church in the 1970s'.

She became a widow from Mr. Fidelio Cortinas,Jr. when their daughter was just a toddler.

Irene continued to be active in the church. She worked hard and was blessed to expand her Beauty Salon by adding on sauna and massage services. She had loving and faithful clientele that would return weekly to have their beauty care done. Irene loved her customers and enjoyed spending time with them. She had great work ethic and would say if you love what you do , you will feel like you never worked a day in your life.

She married her second husband Mr . Rosendo A. Martinez, Jr. They were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church.They enjoyed being members of the Iris Social club back in the 1980s' and enjoyed going to the Black and White Ball yearly.

Irene endured another trial and loss when her Beauty salon caught fire engulfing her adjacent home in the 1990s'. Her faith in GOD kept her strong. She was a fighter and she managed to get back on her feet and kept throwing punches at life with the company of her dear husband Rosendo. She widowed the second time enduring a greater loss of her second husband

Irene enjoyed being at church, being with family, friends, working hard , helping others in need and dancing . She would enjoy cooking for Thanksgiving and as long as she could , she opened the doors of her home for the whole family. & friends. A tradition she inherited from her mother Diamantina and eldest sister Beatrice.

She will be dearly missed. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her family , old friends and those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Hard working hands are now at rest.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. & Mrs. Simon R.Rodriguez, Sister: Beatrice R.Navarro, Brothers: Everardo A.Rodriguez & Manuel A.Rodriguez . Brother -in -law Dario P.Navarro,Sr., Sister -in -law: Consuleo G.Rodriguez, Nephews: Jorge Lee Rodriguez & Dario R.Navarro,Jr. And Grandniece: Jessica Lee Gonzales.

She is survived by Mr.Rosendo Martinez, Jr s'. Loving Family.

She is survived by her daughter: Yolanda Cortinas Ramos from Alice,Tx. , her grandchildren: Yolanda Ramos, Maria Mercedes Martinez & Joseph Martinez from Del Rio,Tx.

She is also survived by her nieces : Clarita Iris R. Gonzales (Reyes) from Universal City,Tx. , Priscilla Rodriguez from Universal City,Tx & AlmaDelia N.Lopez (Jesus ,Jr.) from Del Rio, Tx. ,and her Nephew: Everardo R.Navarro,Sr.

Grand Nephew: Ray Anthony Gonzales from Universal City, Tx , Grand niece : Erica Rae Gonzales from Rockport, Tx. & Great-grand niece Raelynn Sage Gonzales from Universal City,Tx. .

Special thanks to Dr.J.J.Gutierrez, VVRMC nurses & staff , Johanna Tristan,RN with Del Rio Hospice and The Del Rio Hospice staff for all the special care they provided to Mrs. Irene R.Martinez .

Special thanks also to her loving, attentive and caring home provider and friend Amparo Perez .

The visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.
A chapel service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.
The interment will follow at San Felipe Cemetery.
