Ima Ruth Gaines

Ima Ruth Gaines, age 92, entered into rest April 23, 2012, in Cedar City, UT. She was born June 6, 1919 in Matador, TX. She graduated from Matador High School, and attended Canyon College in Canyon, TX. She was married to Joseph Daniel Gaines for 65 years. until he passed away on January 9, 2009. Joe and Ruth were married after he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, and thus began their life of being on the move. His military career took them to Panama, North Africa, and throughout the European theater. Joe, Ruth and family lived in Toule, France for 3 years during the mid 60's. After Joe retired from military, he and Ruth began a new venture of irrigated farming, growing cotton, winter and spring wheat, maize in the Texas panhandle area. In addition to being a homemaker, Ruth worked as a cook for an assisted living home.
After retiring from farming, Joe and Ruth began travelling, which was a life-long love of theirs. They typically travelled 20,000 miles a year in their car. Some of their favorite places over the years were Branson, MO, Jackson Hole WY, California to see Buck Owens, most of the national parks, Hawaii and Europe.
Left to cherish the memory of their parents are sons Stan Gaines and wife Beth of Cedar City, UT and Steve Gaines of Westminster, California. Five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren from Arizona, and one grandchild in Utah.
Graveside Services will be held Monday April 30, 2012 at 9 a.m., Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery, Del Rio, TX.
