Gonzalo De Luna January 10, 1929 April 16, 2013 Gonzalo De Luna age 84, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born January 10, 1929 in Zaragoza, Coah. Mexico. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Emma S. De Luna, his parents Jose and Guadalupe De Luna, and his brothers Andres and Arturo �"Manito"� De Luna. Gonzalo was a determined and very hard working man, from the time he was a young boy shining shoes for a few pesos to his recent years building and adding on to his home and apartments. He took great pride in his work, particularly in his homes, at 202 Ware and his unique round house which created an event that led to community excitement, interest and curiosity, with hundreds of people driving by to see the progress during construction, and upon completion, visiting during Open House. In the early 60"�s, a time when there were very few Hispanic business owners, he served as a pioneer or trailblazer and established a very successful construction business. The company sign that stood high above his buildings of De Luna and Co. served as an inspiration for future Hispanic entrepreneurs and provided an example of what hard work, determination and a �"Si Se Puede"� attitude can accomplish. He was a very kind and generous man. He enjoyed helping others and one of his pet projects was distributing Christmas gifts to the underprivileged. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren"�s sports events. He had a wonderful sense of humor, always ready with a joke or two. He was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters Lydia Hernandez, Socorro Rodriguez and Maria Carmen Tobias; his son Gonzalo De Luna, Jr. (Lupita) of San Antonio, TX; daughters Emma Yolanda Castro (Richard) of El Paso, TX; Luz Clara Balderas (Eduardo); Maria Cristina �"Cris"� Lambert (Mark) of San Antonio, TX; Mina Garza (Jesus); and Norma Santana (Guadalupe) of Houston, TX. His grandchildren Julyssa De Luna; Richard, Vince, and D.J. Castro; Cathy Faz, Mary and Eddie Balderas; Marisa, Megan and Madalynn Lambert; Angelica, Raul, Jesse and Jaylee Garza; and Thomas Santana. His great-grandchildren Gabrielle and Zan Castro; Lauren and Eva Alvarado. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 5:00pm to 9:00pm, Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary 7:00pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 2:00pm, St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
