Obituary

Gloria de Anda, born November 4, 1930, in Laredo, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024, in Del Rio, Texas at the age of 93.

Gloria was married for 55 years to her high school sweetheart, Luis de Anda. Their life together was marked by a deep bond nurtured by their faith which began at St. Augustine Catholic school in Laredo. Her husband's career in the U.S. Air Force led their family on numerous travels around the world including England and the Philippines. Together, they raised four children: Dee-Dee, married to Lucio Barajas; Luis E. de Anda, married to Lupita; Gilda, married to Agustin Vasquez; and Cynthia, married to Arturo de Luna. Gloria's resilience carried her throughout her life, both as a military wife and as a devoted mother to her children.

Gloria's legacy will continue through her 14 grandchildren and their spouses: Christopher, married to Michelle; Sarah; Bianca and Artem; Gloria; Gayla; Abigail; Tanya; Jonathan; Luis Angel; Bonita, married to Alex; Johnny; Amanda, married to Trent; Fernando, married to Gabriela; and Alyssa, married to Saul; and respectively, her 14 great-grandchildren: Maya, Amelia, Gyo, Jade, Sky, Alex, David, Julian, Ricardo, Max, Aaron, Thiago, Montse, and Alayah. They all brought immense joy to her life and knew her well for her generosity, especially her gifts of $2 bills. Gloria is also survived by her brother-in-law, Chris de Anda; sister-in-law, Juanita Kinealy; half-sister, Rosa Vela Parra; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Gloria was preceded in death by her mother Alicia G. Martinez, two of her cherished grandchildren, Luis Angel Vasquez and Abigail de Anda, and half-sister, Consuelo Vela Pineda.

A viewing for Gloria will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Del Rio, Texas. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father José Manuel on Wednesday, July 24th at 10 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Westlawn Cemetery.

Gentlemen with the honor of pallbearers are Luis E. de Anda, Christopher Gasca, Jonathan de Anda, Johnny Vasquez, Fernando de Luna, Lucio Barajas, Agustin Vasquez, Arturo de Luna; Honorary Pallbearers are Trent Harben, Alex Castro, Saul Sanchez, Frank Ferreira.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Val Verde Friends of Health and Wellness.

Gloria will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
