Gerardo Jesus Maldonado

Gerardo Jesus Maldonado age 77, entered into rest on January 7, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born February 10, 1936 in Del Rio, Texas. He is preceded in death by his Parents Jesus and Beatrice Maldonado.
After graduating from San Felipe High School, Gerardo went on to earn his Industrial Arts degree from Sul Ross State University followed by his Masters degree in Vocational Education from East Texas State University. He continued his studies and expanded his educational credentials by securing an Administrative Certificate from Sul Ross University.
Maldonado was born and raised in Del Rio and gave back to the community and to the students in San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District by dedicating more than 37 years of service. He was named the Vocational Administrator for the district in 1978 where over his tenure he successfully led improvements in the vocational programs and expanded course selection offerings for students starting at the 7th. grade level through high school. His students were very important to him and he treasured the relationships he created with them.
As a loving husband, giving father and doting grandfather his warm heart, unforgettable laugh and amazing sense of humor brought a smile to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. The family will cherish the memories of Gerardo living life to the fullest be it hunting, fishing or most importantly the time he spent with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years Maria Antoietta (Tonie) Cardenas Maldonado. Son Ricardo (Rick) Maldonado and wife Yvonne. Also survived by grandson Aaron, granddaughter Anissa. Sister Nani Foster, and numerous Uncles, Aunts, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary 6:30 PM.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
