Obituary

Gary Dwayne Johnson, 74, of Del Rio, Texas, passed away on August 27th, 2024. Born on July 5th, 1950 in Fresno California and raised in Barstow California, he was a devoted husband to Wendy Jane Johnson, a loving father to Clover Charity Johnson and Heidi Lee Jeffries, a proud grandfather to his beautiful grandson Joel Frederick Cortez, and step-grandfather to Kade Jeffries and Karter Jeffries.

Dad was hard-working and dedicated. He spent 20 years serving his country in the Army, where he was known for his dedication to his country and fellow brothers in arms. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and passions. After retiring with an honorable discharge as a CW2, he continued to serve his country from the sidelines by working in hospitality services and grounds maintenance at Laughlin Air Force Base for many years.

Though Dad may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of fatherly love honored. He was a man who loved his family deeply and took in anyone who needed a home, a father, and love. He left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Dad's hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He enjoyed NASCAR, woodworking, football, and sci-fi movies, often spending his days in his chair scratching off lottery tickets and playing video poker games while the game was on TV. His love for family was something he shared with his children, leaving a mark on us that will never fade.

He is survived by his wife Wendy, his daughters Clover and Heidi, his daughter-in-law Cynthia, his son-in-law Kolby, and many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

A funeral service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
