Obituary

Eulalia Olivo Rivenes entered into rest on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in Del Rio, Texas.

She was born on May 9, 1931 to Martin Posada Olivo and Irene Vasquez Delgado in Del Rio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her common-law husband Jorge Castorena Barragan, husband Merwin A. Rivenes; siblings Everardo, Reymundo, Martin, Elvira Ybarra & Aurora Zapata; & grandson Wayne Allen.

Lala was a gracious and gentle lady who was loved by many. She extended her heart and hand to offer kindness and goodwill to everyone. Friends and family admired her because she was a charitable, steadfast, selfless, and respectful person. A conscientious soul, Lala not only cared about her family, but also about her community and country, and her legacy leaves an example of goodness for her descendants to carry on.

She was an accomplished lady with a green thumb, who could grow corn in caliche soil, who nurtured chickens, birds and especially her favorite parrot named Cachito. She gifted many beautiful quilts to her children, and never said she couldn't when asked to serve. For a few years, she served as the president of the local NAMI chapter.

Her occupations to provide for her family were various. As a teen in the 40's she was cleaning homes and babysitting in south Del Rio, taking her hard-earned wages to her parents. In the 60's she worked as a housekeeper at the Catalina hotel. Later, she cleaned homes in the Buena Vista area and took in ironing in the evenings. In the 70's and 80's she would rise at early hours to prepare meals for patients at Val Verde hospital, and she sewed at Hicks Ponder denim factory, often coming home covered in blue lint.

She was a consummate cook who fed her large family without complaint, each meal presented as an offering of devotion to them. Food was at times limited, but her generous spirit was full of abundance. The family will miss this beloved lady dearly. She leaves them with wonderful memories of her fun and sweet nature, and with a great sense of loving gratitude for the blessings she bestowed upon them.

She is survived by daughters Herlinda (Jose) Guerra and Antonia (Paul) Shannon; sons George Barragán, Jesus (Joyce) Barragán, and Reyes Abel (Margarita) Barragán; 13 grandchildren Jose Jr. (Debbie) Guerra, Mark (Bobbi Jo) Guerra, Kellie (Gabriel) Molina, Jennifer Irene (Chris) Keeling, Elena (Thomas) Campbell, Andrea Shannon (Andrew Clearfield), Jorge Barragán, Anthony (Nikki) Barragán, Nicholas (Vanessa) Barragán, Julian (Nancy) Barragán, Jesse Barragán, Jessica (Alberto) Barragán, and Jonathan Barragán; 23 great-grandchildren Kristina, Kayla, Kya, Mark Jr., and Jose Roberto Guerra, Gavin and Christian Molina, Joshua Keeling, Benjamin and Anna Clearfield, Claire, Charles, and Caroline Campbell, Hazine Delacruz Hernandez, Jamie Sparkman, Alexa, Max, Joseph, Mary, Antonio, Isaiah, Elijah, and Ray E. Barragán; 2 great-great-grandchildren Sofia Barragan and Aurora Waddell; siblings Marta Gutierrez and Reynaldo Olivo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
