Ernest Frank Koog, III, 69, of Del Rio, Texas, took his final ride into the sunset on May 17, 2026. Born on November 7, 1956, to Ernest Frank Koog, Jr. and Fannie Viola Koog, Frank touched many lives with his wisdom, cowboy humor, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

Frank dedicated 25 years to the Department of the Air Force Civil Service, ultimately retiring from Laughlin Air Force Base as an Aircraft Ordnance Systems Mechanic. He was known by his peers for his honesty, tireless work ethic, and keen problem-solving skills. Prior to that, Frank spent his days and nights cowboying under the West Texas skies as a ranch manager.

Frank was a cowboy through and through, known for his grit, infectious laugh, and quiet wisdom. Above all, he loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Lauree Ann Koog; his children and their spouses, Elizabeth Marie Koog (Lizette) and Melissa Ann Bahena (Netza); and his four grandchildren, Noah Mitchell, Anna Marie, Jake Martin, and Luke Madden, who adored their Papa. Frank is also survived by many other family and friends who will deeply miss him.

Frank would tell you not to shed a tear, but instead to tip your hat, saddle up, and keep moving forward.

Cremation has taken place, and memorial service will be held on May 29, 2026 from 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM with a recitation of the holy rosary at 6:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Del Rio, Texas. A Mass celebrating his life will be held the following day, May 30, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, with a procession to Westlawn Cemetery immediately following the Mass.

Additionally, a Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 5:00 PM at Lorina's Cantina, where friends and family are invited to share stories and a glass of whiskey. As Frank would say, "Can't dance, can't rodeo, might as well."

Frank's legacy of humor, perseverance, and lifelong learning will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His remarkable life will forever stand as a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit filled with curiosity, strength, and love.
