Emma Beth Cantu Mansfield, of Del Rio, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025 in San Antonio at the age of 75 years. Emma was born June 28, 1949 in San Benito, Texas, one of six children born to Miguel and Maria Cantu. She graduated from San Felipe High School in Del Rio and attended Durham Business School in San Antonio. She worked for the San Felipe Del Rio School District at East Side Elementary School for several years. She then worked as Executive Secretary for the Val Verde County Judge. She retired from the county after 25 years of service. She enjoyed all her years at the county court house and was referred to as Miss Emma, the Queen of the County. After retirement she moved to San Antonio where she lived alongside her daughter and granddaughter. Emma was an avid reader and loved watching John Wayne movies. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness and loving smile.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents Miguel and Maria Cantu and her sister, Diana Martinez and Ruben Gomez, III. Survivors include her daughter Nichole Mansfield and granddaughter Evelynn Marie Gomez both of San Antonio; siblings, Irma (Ferdy) Calderon of Del Rio, Teresa (Alfonso) Vielma of Castroville, Norma (Kevin) Nikes of St. Joseph, Mo., and Michael (Cindy) Cantu of San Angelo; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The visitation will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025 from 11:00 AM - 2:30 PM; recitation of the Holy Rosary at 12:30 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home; followed by the funeral mass of Christian burial at 3:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Pall Bearers include: Michael Cantu, Jr., Ferdy Calderon, Sr., Alfonso Vielma, Sr., Kevin Nikes.
Funeral services conclude at the church.
