Editha Jo (Russell) Calk of Comstock, Texas was called home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Editha was born on August 1, 1939 in Levelland, Texas. She met her soon-to-be husband, Perry, while they were attending Texas Tech University. They were married on April 29, 1961, and spent their life together in western Val Verde County, Texas, ranching, raising a family, and enjoying life until Perry went to be with the Lord, 59 years later. Editha taught school in Comstock and Del Rio for 25 years and was an active leader in the Val Verde County 4-H Club. One of her great joys was serving as the church pianist for most of her life at Comstock Baptist Church where Perry served as the music director.

Editha Jo is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Perry Calk, and sister Jackie Dycus. She is survived by son Philip Calk and wife Kathy of Brackettville, Texas; daughter Janna Calk of Del Rio, Texas; son Clinton Calk and wife Tina of Amarillo, Texas; son Russell Calk and wife Pattie of Lampasas, Texas; and 7 grandchildren. She was devoted to her family and appreciated opportunities to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family. Editha "adopted" all the boys and young men who passed through her kitchen when hired to work on the ranch. She enjoyed helping others and was a godly example to those around her.

Editha Jo Calk will be missed. We thank God for her life and are blessed to have had such a loving and caring mother and grandmother.

A graveside service is planned for 9 am on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Westlawn Cemetery in Del Rio, Texas. Pallbearers are grandsons Justin Calk, Bryan Calk, Colby Calk, Austin Calk, Cooper Calk, and Travis Calk; granddaughter Emily Calk will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
