Donald Robert Turner, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away surrounded by the love of his wife and family, on March 8, 2026.

He was born in Donna, Texas, on January 12, 1938.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George James Turner and Anna Mae Dillon; brother, Rene Turner and son-in-law Alejandro Avilez, Jr.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, JoAnn Turner; his brother Ken Turner (Maria) and sister Carmalita Turner. His children, Lisa L. Avilez, Charlan Calhoun (Ryan) and Sabrina Evans (Bob). Grandchildren; Alejandro Avilez III, Jessica Avilez (Chelsea), Aaron Avilez, Keely Chappell (Colby), Rakerd Calhoun, Conner Evans (Bridgett) and Griffin Evans. Great Grandchildren; Abby, Jaxon, Penelope, Jada, Emma, Aaron Jr., and Alexa. Great Great Grandchild; Ivy and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a proud veteran of the US Army, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. He served as a commander for the 3d Recon, 7th Cav. He was a 1959 graduate of Texas A& M College, in College Station, Texas.

After serving in the US Army, he went on to work in the insurance business, working his way up to the VP of International Claims for Cigna, where he had the opportunity to travel around the world.

Donald loved fishing, boating, camping, quail hunting, gardening and gathering with family.

His annual fishing trip to Port Mansfield, reunited him with family members and was so special to him. To his fishing 'buddies" he was known as "Captain Don".

Donald was the rock of his family; kind, generous, caring and loving.

Due to his many life experiences and wisdom, he was someone you could turn to for any advice needed or a problem solved.

He loved his family unconditionally, and was always willing to help anyone and everyone.

He will always be in our hearts, we miss him already.
