Dianna Jean Tison, 83, was born on October 4, 1941 and died on October 29, 2024 under the loving care of Hope Hospice and Jim and Dee Overeynder. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Isaac Damon Storms and Carol Ruth Storms Waldschmidt. Dianna grew up as the eldest of three, she was a military child and moved frequently. She even had the opportunity to spend part of her childhood in Japan.Dianna's family settled in San Antonio, where she was able to attend Mac Arthur High School. Dianna Studied Nursing at the Baptist school of Nursing. After becoming a Nurse, Dianna enlisted in the Air Force with aspirations to be a flight nurse during Vietnam, however was only able to remain state side serving at Brooke Army Hospital. After Discharge from the Air Force, Dianna continued her nursing career teaching at the Robert B Green Hospital. Dianna then moved to The University of Incarnate Word School of Nursing, where she made an impact on the education of future nurses and nursing education there for 45 Years, retiring in 2013, as a Professor Emeritus. While working full time as a nursing instructor, Dianna obtained her Doctorate in Nursing from the University of Texas Austin in 1992. Dr. Dianna Tison was committed to imparting the principles of the art & science of nursing. The approach to nursing care is based on application of the scientific problem-solving process. Once a plan of action is developed, then the nurse includes analysis based on principles and instinct before taking action. As an educator, she was all about engaging the learner. Creative, evidence-based methods were always part of her teaching strategies. Ever the self-directed learner, professional development was a strength.She was respectful of students, valued their opinions, and guided them to be curious, learners & problem solvers. She did not provide answers but rather guided students to be independent thinkers.With student engagement being her "trademark", she shared her educator talents in support of the UIW student engagement program. She regularly had freshmen students from the program continue to consult with her throughout their UIW education experience. Dr. Dianna Tison had an impact on countless individuals in their pursuit of a Nursing Career. In her off time, Dianna had a love of horses and would frequently attend Trail Rides. It was at a trail ride she met her Husband Judge Hodges Tison (Ty) and they were married on November 15, 1968. During their marriage, Ty and Dianna shared a love for animals. They moved to the country in Bulverde Texas where they lived for over 50 years. It was at this home that they raised their Daughter Mary Carol Tison and son Judge Damon Tison. During this time Dianna had a love for fancy poultry and frequently attended poultry shows throughout the state of Texas and as far away as York, Pennsylvania. Dianna and Ty's love for Fancy Poultry led them to develop with others the Alamo Poultry Club. Due to Dianna's diligent work, the club was able to host a National Poultry Show in San Antonio at the Hemisphere Convention center. After Ty's passing, Dianna continued to remain an icon at poultry show events. She particularly enjoyed supporting the Junior Fanciers to continue to develop their love of Poultry. In 2020 she was Honored by the Brazos Valley Poultry Club for her work through the years in supporting the poultry fancy.Despite a demanding career Dianna worked endlessly in the raising of her children. She took time for 4-H activities, coaching soccer, sewing multiple costumes for plays and dance recitals. She also would teach others to sew as she would sew clothing for her children and would even make matching outfits for her daughter and her baby dolls. She spent multiple hours on the road supporting her children in activities. She was excellent at finding activities for her children to engage in.Dianna also had a love of plants and frequently gardening and continued to do so up until her care needs no longer allowed. She spent one summer traveling the roads of Texas photographing wildflowers and researching them.Dianna loved dogs, her and Ty raised Australian Shepherds for many years. She never was without at least one dog. She loved all wildlife and would care for feral cats, and the wild birds as well.Dianna loved to travel for both business and leisure. Dianna enjoyed striking up conversation with anyone, no matter where she was. She enjoyed learning about different cultures and communities. Road trips with Dianna were always and adventure as her preference was to travel the back roads as much as possible. Her last major adventure was a first-time trip to Las Vegas with her daughter and granddaughter. At her trips to poultry shows, she was frequently accompanied by her friend Bill, sister Mary Jane or daughter and grandchildren, and her beloved dog Shelly.Her love for the outdoors included a love for fishing. She loved to go visit her brother and go out on the boat for fishing trips. She would also support the Anglers on Wheels fishing trips through various donations. When she was no longer able to go fishing, she enjoyed hearing and seeing photos from her son and grandsons fishing trips.Dianna had a zest for life and enjoyed spending time with loved ones, especially at the holidays. Frequently preparing home cooked meals and playing games and spending time together. Her bright blue eyes and outspoken personality will be deeply missed.Dianna is proceeded in death by her parents Issac and Carol Storms, brother Jay Storms, and Sister Mary Jane Young, beloved dog Shelly. She is Survived by her Daughter Mary Carol Tison, Son Judge Damon Tison, and grandchildren Shelby Nicole Whitaker, Wesley Wyatt Whitaker, and Dylan Hodges Tison, and beloved dog Stormy.In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to either Hope Hospice or Fancy Feathers Kyle 4-H club in memory of Dianna.
