David Gene Seargeant, 68, passed away on August 12, 2022 in Uvalde, Texas. He was born on October 1, 1953 in Del Rio to Oscar Thomas "Tommy" Seargeant and Wilda Jean Nash. He was baptized at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church on January 31, 1954, where he later served as an altar boy. As a lifelong resident of Kinney County, David was well known as a rancher, farmer, drilling, pump, and windmill businessman, and true steward of the land. At the time of his service starting in 1975, he was the youngest elected Justice of Peace in Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Susan Winters-Kyle and nephew Charles Lee Winters. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Helen Garza Seargeant, brother Thomas Dee Seargeant and wife Barbara, sister Anne Seargeant Ross and husband Henry, son David Gene Seargeant, Jr. and wife Lana of Kingwood, son Christopher Lee Seargeant of Brackettville, and daughter Suzanna Seargeant Wilson and husband Alex of Austin. He is survived by five grand children: David Gene Seargeant III, Emma Jewel Seargeant, Jacob Thomas Seargeant, Laura Louise Seargeant, Rylan Gage Sunderland; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitations will be from 4-7pm with recitation of the Most Holy Rosary at 6:00pm on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Sunset Memorial Oaks, 302 Spring Street in Brackettville. Funeral services will be at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church at 12:00pm on Thursday, August 18, 2022 with burial at the St Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery. Officiating will be Reverend James Ikeatuegwu. Pallbearers are Matthew Leo Sadler, Michael Terrell Sadler, Justin Lane Coates, Charles Timothy Ward, Jr, JJ Sandoval, and David Gene Seargeant III. Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Bader, Zack Davis, Lloyd Lee Davis, H. C. Hunt, Sam Hunt, Carter Winters, Tommy Winters, Hugh Coates, Asa York, Victor Sanchez, Tommy Gass.
