David Jordan Mayfield December 8, 1942 – January 2nd, 2022 Our beloved Husband, Father, and Papa entered into rest on Sunday, January 2, 2022. He was born on December 8, 1942 in El Paso, TX to Joe Telford Mayfield and Rachel Lane Mayfield. He is survived by his wife Maria Mayfield, Children: Malinda Mayfield, Fatima Martin Del Campo (Pablo), Hector Mayfield (Denise), and Jack Mayfield (Jackie). He was called "Papa" by his precious grandchildren – Belen, Kylie, Hallie, Hunter, Landon, Landry, Jackson, and Rylee. He was passionately loyal, generous and one of a kind. Pursuing his children's interest, his once battle-hardened cowboy hats would soon fade and be replaced with baseball caps and unforgettable memories. He deeply loved his family and was devoted to supporting them in their passions. Sports became the outlet where his extreme dedication, love, and loyalty not only influenced his children but had a profound impact on so many within the community. He was deeply loved by so many. In his later years, you could still see his unwavering dedication to his family and especially his grandkids. David was a railroader for over 32 years, hauling freight trains to Sanderson and then later Alpine. He began his career as a Brakeman for the Southern Pacific Railroad (Union Pacific), working his way up to become a Conductor. Prior to the railroad, David honorably served his country in the 101st Airborne. David will be remembered for his selflessness, humility, and generosity. Military honors will be provided by The American Legion Post 595. Visitation will be from 10AM - 12PM Sunday January 9th, 2022 at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel Service at 12:10PM Interment to follow at The Masonic Cemetery
