Daniel (Danny) Torres, 60, of Chicago, IL and long-time resident of Del Rio, TX passed away on Thursday evening, May 19th, 2022, ending a 17-year battle with kidney cancer. He spent his last moments in his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his father Angel Raul Torres, his mother Victoria S. Villarreal, and his brother Angel Torres. He is survived by his wife Veronica Noami Torres of 38 loving years, his children Desideria Andrea Torres, Daniel Torres Jr., Jazmin Briana and Sean Eric Soriano, and Aneya Alejandra Torres, his grandchildren Karina Adalee Reyes, McKenna Avery Scott, and Leilani Jade Soriano, and his siblings Raul S. Torres, Maria Elena Arreola, Linda Torres, Yolanda and Macario Salgado, and Sophia and Rene G. Cardona. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Danny began working at the young age of 12 as a vegetable picker in Hereford, Tx along side his Tio Pancho and cousins. Danny was a member of the Del Rio High School class of 1980. During high school, he spent his time listening to great music, spending days with his close friends playing basketball and baseball for the Del Rio Rams and working at his stepfather's Exxon gas station. After graduation Danny moved to San Antonio where he worked for H-E-B and met his future wife, Veronica, "the love of his life". In San Antonio, Danny attended the University of the Incarnate Word and the University of Texas at San Antonio to pursue his studies. Danny then worked with Budweiser for seven years and served as a driver. He always had many happy stories to share about the friends and memories he made during this time of his life. All these experiences lead Danny to the United Parcel Service (UPS) where he spent an honorable career with the company. With UPS, he began as a driver and worked his way to excel as an Account Executive (AE) for the Southwest region of Texas. Danny dedicated 30 years of his life to the UPS mission, delivering timely logistical needs to the global population and graciously serving a purpose greater than himself. Danny took great pride in his duties with UPS and his outstanding performance was recognized when he earned a spot in the top 2% of Account Executives in the country. For his efforts, he was singularly chosen out of about 3,000 AE's to receive the prestigious Platinum Award in Atlanta, Georgia in 2014. This achievement was a testament to Danny's relentless work-ethic and commitment to providing for his family. Danny's greatest loves were his wife, children, and grandchildren. Danny's love for his entire family was evident in every step he took. He was a fierce supporter of his children in all their academic and athletic endeavors. From pee-wee football and cheer, to coaching local youth traveling basketball teams in the summer, to Varsity and collegiate basketball. He was a fierce Del Rio Rams & Queens fan and loved providing DRHS Athletics with his booming announcing voice and uplifting music during the home basketball and volleyball games. Danny was also a devout servant of the Lord and dedicated his life to The Virgin Mary even in his last moments. A true example for his family, leaving behind a legacy of unconditional faith and love for God. Danny will forever be remembered for his genuine kindness, his generosity, and his perseverance. Danny possessed a tender, loving spirit and a tenacious work-ethic that was evident to all those who crossed his path. As a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, he will continue to be one of the cornerstones of his family's foundation. He will be incredibly missed, forever celebrated, and perpetually loved by his family and friends. Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 2, 2022, 10:00am at St Joseph Catholic Church. Inurnment of ashes will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
