Clara Mae Laman, age 91, entered into rest October 30, 2006 in Brackettville, Texas. She was born December 23, 1914 in rural Mississippi to Ezekiel Anderson Duke and Nettie Dell Parton Duke. Before moving to their rock house on Crockett St. in Brackettville, Clara was a long time resident of Spofford where Doc worked as a signal Maintainer for the railroad and she operated a grocery store for many years. Clara was first and foremost a loving homemaker for her family and a faithful, active member of the Church of Christ. She was active in the PTA while her children were in school, served as an election judge for many local elections over the years, worked part-time reading telephone relays for SW Bell, provided meals for the children of several ranching families, and participated in many other local undertakings. Many a person, local and transient, was the recipient of her kind works and nourishing meals.
She is preceded in death by her husband Roland R. "Doc" Laman of 56 years, her daughter Bonne Jo Jones, and her great granddaughter Michal Claire Schmidt, and son-in-laws Dover Doyle Sprott and Ben Serafine Jones.
Clara is survived by Roland R. "Bobby" and Marie Laman of Seguin, Johnnie Dee and Carol Laman of Katy, Patsy Ann and Elmer Haller of Brackettville, David Lee and Joyce Laman of San Antonio, Betty Lou and Marcus "Sonny" Tidwell of Brackettville, Jany Maye and Steve Hoag of Waco, Judy Faye and George T. "Stoney" Burks of Brackettville. She was proud of and loved her 20 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Pall Bearers are Sean Burks, Collin Houg, Begie Jones, David Laman, Tom, Laman, Willie Laman, David Sprott and Mark Tidwell.
Honorary Pall Bearers are James Burks, John Jones, Shawn Jones, Evan Laman, Steve Laman, Paul Laman, Roland Laman, Randell Mamgun, Allen Motes, Erik Schmidt, Joe Steece, Bryan Thompson, Gary Thompson, Joshua Tidwill, Nolan Tidwill, and Christopher Wueste.
Visitation was held Wednesday, November 1, 2006 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home,Brackettville.
Funeral Service was held Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 10:00 AM at Church of Christ in Brackettville.
Interment to follow at Kinney County Cemetery.
