Carol Ann Halamicek Pendergrass passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 25th, at her home in Del Rio, Texas.

Born May 22, 1944, in El Campo, Texas, to the late Dr. John Florian Halamicek and Kathleen Sullivan Halamicek, Carol was a 1962 graduate of El Campo High School. Known for her fun and outgoing personality, Carol's popularity and extracurricular involvement were only matched by her outstanding academic achievements.

Off to the University of Texas in Austin after High School graduation, Carol attended UT for three years until her plans for Medical School were sidetracked when she met a young Aggie named Carl Pendergrass after their mothers, who lived across the street from each other in El Campo, conspired for them to meet. They married on March 18, 1965, and moved to Houston, Texas, where Carl took a job with Superior Oil Company and attended South Texas School of Law at night. As expected, Carol remained committed to her academic pursuits, continuing her education and graduating in 1968 from the renowned College of Pharmacy at the University of Houston. A career she would both practice and enjoy for her entire professional life.

It was during their time in Houston that Carl and Carol welcomed three children: Lisa, Douglas and David. When Carl took a position with the Newton Law Firm in Del Rio, Texas, the family packed up and moved west. Shortly after arriving, son John joined the family.

Whether in Del Rio or when the family moved to El Campo, Texas, in 1984, and then back to Del Rio in 1993, Carol enjoyed a very busy life as both the matriarch of her family and as a member of various social and service-oriented clubs such as The Garden Club, The Pan American Club, and Republican Women of Texas. A lifelong Christian, she also served her churches in Del Rio and El Campo in many capacities and on many committees. Somehow, through her hectic life as Wife, mother, and Volunteer, Carol developed an extended list of lifelong friendships as well as being "Mom" to many of her children's friends. Never knowing a stranger, there was nothing an extrovert like Carol enjoyed more than a wonderful visit with a friend, catching up over a glass of wine and sharing each other's latest news.

Family was everything, and life was meant to be lived. Even after losing her beloved Carl in 2013, Carol did not slow down. Whether it was traveling, visiting her friends and family, volunteering, staying active at her church, or just going to the casino with her lady friends, to her, age was just a number, and her zeal and passion for life kept her busy enjoying her journey. Truly a life well lived and one we should all be so hopeful for ourselves. Carol will be missed by many, but her life will always be celebrated.

Carol Ann Halamicek Pendergrass is survived by her children: daughter Lisa Rogenes and husband Vince of Frisco; son Douglas and wife Toni of Farmington, NM; son David of Katy; and son John and wife Becky of Del Rio. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth Pendergrass, Jenson Rogenes, Jonathan Rogenes, John Reed Pendergrass, Kate Pendergrass, Mila Rogenes, Aiden Pendergrass, Bannon Pendergrass, Douglas Pendergrass, Raylee Pendergrass, and Hadley Pendergrass. She is also survived by her brother, John Thomas Halamicek, and wife, Susan, of El Campo.

She is preceded in death by her husband Carl Pendergrass, her parents Dr. John and Kathleen Halamicek, and her granddaughter Savannah Pendergrass.

Viewing will be held on Friday, May 29th, from 5pm to 8pm at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Del Rio, Texas. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30th, at 11a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Del Rio, Texas, with the Reverend Arnoldo L. Romero officiating.

Following a graveside service at the Masonic Cemetery in Del Rio, Texas, an opportunity to meet with the family and celebrate Carol's life will be held in the St. James Episcopal Church dining hall.

Pallbearers are: Vince Rogenes, Jenson Rogenes, John Reed Pendergrass, Aiden Pendergrass, Bannon Pendergrass, and Douglas Pendergrass. Honorary pallbearers: John Halamiceck and Jonathan Rogenes.
